Are you looking to stay at CenturyLink? If so, speak with your manager and let him/her know you'd like to plot out a plan for advancement. If they can't you'll know it's time to move on.
You'll probably have to join a new company to make a vertical move!
I agree with the others, you'll have to leave to get that bump but it does happen
From my experience (as I made the move to leadership 7 years back), is that you need to be vocal about your desire in the current company.
Ask your manager to involve you in leadership meetings (even if you are just a listener), search for mentor within the company and take extra assignment related to strategic matter within your department. Those actions will get you noticed by leadership team and will make you ready for the next move!
Being vocal puts you on the radar when opportunity opens up. Your company/manager will feel some pressure to give you career opportunity if they don't want to loose you.
Last but not least; read books, take online courses, or follow leaders on social media.
Good luck!
