Some of my friends who are parents said they're not worried about covid because it's very low risk for children. They know I'm a teacher and that I'm in a high-risk category. Makes me feel like they don't care about me.

tell them how it feels from your perspective. make it a teachable moment.

It’s a tough spot to be a teacher. Many don’t realize how essential were are to our communities and students but are so undervalued. They have the perspective of “a parent” and they might feel overwhelmed with the whole Covid situation. I’m a parent and teacher and I’m still not comfortable about going back to in person teaching. It’s disheartening to hear people not take Covid seriously and view teachers as replaceable 😢. I’m sure your friends care hut they’re oblivious to your perspective as a teacher. Also they may not have experienced Covid first hand and so they don’t think it can happen to their kids or them 😐

Perspective is one thing, but that is a combination of rudeness and ignorance. I agree, if you want to remain friends, to make it a teachable moment and explain to them your point of view. But simply being caught up in their own experience is not an excuse, even if mini succumb to it. And I also agree that teachers are often undervalued when they are considered at all. One of the ways Covid is changing the country is bringing the teaching profession into much clearer focus. Sadly, in this country, that will fade whenever Covid fades, and our selfish, anti-socialism will once again be considered not just acceptable, but the American way.

Umm I'm a prostitute?? My now ex believed he deserved sex when he gave me covid and stayed with me to take care of me, so apparently I owed him sex? I refused because for obvious reasons...I wasn't feeling well and wtf am I doing with a boy who throws a tantrum when not getting sex. Lol so all this - I think I might have been a prostitue this whole time.....

I’m a first time dog owner, got a covid puppy, and would appreciate some advice around what to do with my dog, if I have to return to the office 3 days a week. I imagine I’ll be gone for about 9 hours. Do people just pay the $20-30 for a dog walker in Toronto? Isn’t that a lot of money? My dog’s breed doesn’t actually need much walking but he definitely would get bored by himself for so long. I am so torn, between taking a work from home 4/5 days job vs intense hybrid corporate work.

Lol to the person who posted the picture comparing hairdressers resuming work to people illegally crossing the border. Comparing COVID to the Flu is ludicrous and apples to oranges but comparing breaking a law to violating a mandate (although in their example Texas is open) isn’t apples and oranges when it fits their narrative apparently 🤨

My brother is a mechanic with 10+ years experience but was laid off due to COVID. He's having a hard time even finding jobs to apply for and asked me for advice. I don't even know what someone can do without a degree. He has valuable hard skills but I just don't think there's a demand in NYC right now. Should I advise him to go to school? He'd have to fully finance his degree and I'm just not sure if it's worth it for him to start over at the bottom, or what industry he'd even fit in...

Given the presidents comments in the debate and the constant violations of the Hatch act that likely increased the risk of him catching COVID (ie all those maskless people on the lawn)...why should the American tax payers foot his medical bills now. This seems like something he should be paying OOP due to his recklessness

I'm shocked by how many smart people on here emphasize the wrong things in preventing the spread of COVID. It doesn't matter if a place looks clean and feels safe. Clorox wipes and gloves do not help much. The issue is how much time you spend close to other people, especially indoors, whether or not you are wearing masks (and, if so, N95 or surgical) and the air exchange rate. It isn't "safe" to eat indoors at a restaurant because it looks clean and the staff bleach the tables.

Worst case, but still possible: Covid continues to spread for years despite any vaccine (the rest of our lives). Unemployment skyrockets and the US becomes a developing country with squalid conditions for the low-income. We lose social order and all need to hire private security guards to protect our homes from theft and violence. This also means no more vacations or fun events because the risk of something bad happening is too high. What are your thoughts on this?

Getting depressed about the fact that we may have little to no raises this year; especially promotion raises. Have been waiting and expecting this raise for a while. I know I should be grateful I still have a well paying job, especially with the current situation around the world. Any tips to get through this? Been full time for 2 years, never had to deal with any downturn issues with my company. Trying to be as grateful as I can be, but also kind of bummed 😕
