How did you get started in your career as an FA? I work in the home office and have been an assistant to an FA before. I have a network, I have ambition, I have credibility and connections at my firm..

Need some advice.. Dad and in-laws had a very awkward Mahr conversation, with MIL to be phoning people and saying how great her son is etc. Making me question this whole marriage decision.. should I discuss with with fiancé directly? We have never talked about money/ about his family’s behaviour worried about how to make it productive. This happened couple of weeks ago and we pretended like nothing happened. Goal is to understand his mindset, less so about what happened or the $$ amount

2.5 YOE, 6.2 LPA Mainframe, recently got an offer from TCS for Mainframe Developer position with 7.5Lpa. My project Director called me and willing to match the salary here in Cognizant. He said i will be eligible for yearly hike as well.

Please suggest if truly I will be eligible for yearly hike after being retained and is it good to stay overall.

P.S - TCS gave 7.5 on top of 5.1 LPA, 6.2 is what i got recently in April promotion for Associate.

Sorta new to investing in general, but I’m looking to start saving up to buy a house, I already have some money saved up in a savings but the return is so low—what would be the best way to do this? Safe stocks? Or a CD? I don’t plan on touching the money for about 2 years. TYIA!

New job opportunity for my wife in LA. We would make ~$380k together. It would be a big raise for her and it could be more with her RSUs and our bonuses. We moved to OC from Atlanta and don’t know much about LA. We don’t have debt, are working on investing and saving, and have never owned a home.
Is it worth to move to LA for that salary? Where should we look at living? LA seems to large and dangerous to me. We are not ready to buy and would start with renting.

I have an 08 Toyota with a decent scratch on the side. According to Kelly Blue Book it’s worth about 10k. Estimates to fix the scratch are about 1k. Is it worth fixing or should I just let it be until I buy a new car? I’ll probably buy one mid to late next year. I just can’t fathom spending nearly 10% of the cars value on an aesthetic issue but I also don’t want to be cheap/dumb. No technical issues with the car or anything!

Son’s 2nd birthday coming up.. thinking of opening a custodial account for him and buy a couple hundred dollars worth of a SP500 index fund and continue doing that on subsequent birthdays. Is it a good birthday gift? I understand the drawbacks of a custodial account (losing control once the kid grows up and it affects financial aid etc). I think it will be cool for him to see all the purchase dates fall on his birthdays and teach him about long term investment
