I’m leaving haha, money was great but Position didn’t align and hard to switch given pigeon hole nature

Ok, I'll bite- some of us are saving to leave consulting, not laddering to become chief consultant. This means minimizing work while maximizing pay. Short term big leaps can make an incredible difference in finances, especially if saving for school or side projects

I work to live. I have a family that means more to me than any job. I do not find my passion at the office. And that’s fine. In fact, I think that’s healthier. Jobs are like prom dates. You can have an absolutely fine time with dozens of different ones. So, yes, I’ll take the compensation, thanks.

A3 is getting the overall point. It applies to choosing WLB over money too. sometimes high WL isn’t conducive to someone’s growth. My point is “follow the money” can lead to people making terrible career decisions for themselves and desired likelihood. I’ve seen it happen to people

Worry about yourself! You have no clue why people are doing what they are doing. We are all at different stages, all have different mindsets and goals. Your goal is not same as mine..

OP, but your advice does still apply sometimes to people scraping to get by. At least if I'm reading your point correctly. A Walmart cashier following the money to Walmart Head Cashier might be the wrong choice compared to an internship at [insert lucrative internship of your choice]... Assuming they have the means to bridge that gap. Not being able to bridge the gap is an entirely separate topic to the truth that Head Cashier at Walmart might not be the best long term choice.

I mean, you’re right. Shame about the responses.

That last line was an exaggeration but you get my point

I think the “long term” promise of partner is too enticing, rather than just the money in the ramp up. Reaching that level of decision making within a firm is easier to attain than C-suite equvalent

And this isn’t just referring to consulting jobs. Just in general

Thanks for the wisdom?

You’re welcome 🤣

Some people want invest time into work that pays higher so that they can retire early and that is entirely their prerogative

Others want different things and that’s fine too but, I personally would preference investing in early retirement

Need advice: have been interviewing for a strat role. Did a case in late December. Someone left the team in new year so they have to reevaluate their org structure. Recruiter and director keep reaching out to confirm interest and just spoke to director. They won’t have an answer for 2-3 weeks now but still like me. Job is still open on LinkedIn. Are they going to hire me or not?

Looking for some insight! What role(s) in GCP would be a fit for someone who is great at building research prototypes and then leveraging/leading software engineers to realize the details and build them out? Eg is there a role responsible for bridging the gap between the 'cool things' clients want to do and translating that into a prototype and technical requirements for others to code (in the networking/AI/ML/data science space)? What would that be called at google? Thank you!

I am going into my second year practicing law. I am at a small litigation firm (I would prefer not to give my location but will say that I am not in a big market). I am curious as to what the norm is re: billable hours. My firm only gives credit for hours actually billed to the client. This seems wrong? If a partner cuts my time… or the client refuses to may for some of my time (even if I DID THE WORK)… that time doesn’t count towards my total billable hours.
