Some partners are so stupid. In a free market system, if you want the good associate to work for you, you need to be a nice person. Otherwise, I have enough partners to feed me work and you’re the source of your own problem.

Yup. I know several who have no option but to work with the first years.

Sucks to be them, but karma’s a bitch

And yet somehow these partners still continue to act the way they do and think the associates are the problem

I love the free market system. Burn me too many times then I ghost

Haha you’re nice. Burn me once, it’s done. 💀

I love this. This is exactly my mantra. If you’re a dick to me for no reason (except to boost your own ego), goodbye. I have a whole line up of partners/senior associates waiting to ask me to work on other matters. Next.

If you’re low on hours can you still say no to a partner like that?

It depends on many factors, e.g. the quality of your work, how your hours compare to your peers at the same level, if you need just a few more hours to make bonus

Update: partner is having a tantrum and being passive aggressive because I told him I was already over capacity with prior deals I had committed to.

I’m new to the firm. My third project my manager was very hands off. He’s wants to have a discussion with me about my performance. He did not give me any support to work with; even when I asked! And my direct manager agrees with him, but it was my third week. What to do? I feel like I’m going to say something crazy. Any advice?

Has any of your employer used PIP as a way to fire you? I'm a female POC just getting started in my entry level role and my company does not have a history of using PIP on their associate, but after I gave their academy training a bad review in the survey, my manager is trying to put my on a PIP while the people who started out at the same time are not on it. I'm 9 weeks in my current SDR position, been doing 100 dials a day and got 2 books 1 occur so far.

Is it really that hard to say please and thank you instead of barking orders at me like a dog?

I know we are busy, I know this is my job, but dang, it is a lot more pleasant to work for the midlevels and seniors who say please and thank you and show a tiny amount of respect and appreciation.

I actively avoid working for midlevels and seniors who just bark at me, never ask, and never say thank you because it just shows they don’t care about being a half decent human.

I’ve been working with a founder/small biz freelancing as their digital producer for a little bit. I’m having issues lately because they won’t give me a budget for content they want to make for their site/Instagram. I’m worried with the budget gate keeping that we’re going to burn bridges with contacts, especially now that we’re dipping into my personal contacts for content collaboration. Is this normal? How do I get them to give me a budget to work from?

Hi y’all! Hope this is the right bowl to post this question and get advice. I am dealing with an employer that preaches our values. The owner states that the values are important to her etc yet my manager violates these values and is involved in unethical behavior frequently. Example 1: My manager has told specialists (resourcers) that she will pay them under the table in order for her (manager) to get full credit vs splitfor the placement and therefore (barely) hit her target for the quarter.

My manager asked me to ask less questions. Lately I am receiving negative feedback that I find unfair. I've a different perspective and this request doesn't go with my personality, my role and with the fact that I am working remote. I am very independent, but I need validation on final things I do as I am not a manager plus, I am a curious person who likes to interact and to learn more. For me questions are a way to improve and to find new perspectives. This makes me feel sad and not motivated

How do you all take care of things outside of work? The last thing I want to do after being hyper-organized at work is figuring out my budget or retirement plan or scrubbing the bathtub or figuring out what to buy at the grocery or planning a vacation. I feel so burnt out I can only just sleep on weekends and can’t bring myself to go out or even do basic self care. I feel bad putting this all on my husband and how would I even have the energy to raise kids??

If you don’t have 8 hours of billable time a day, do you leave as is or do you fill in the gap with non-billable work? While I am in the office, I don’t always get the billable amount since I don’t have enough work.
