This trend is partially fueled by the fact that agencies have staffed with too many non-makers who don’t understand the fundamental principles of the tech or media they are concepting for.
We’re doing whatever the client asks. Our directors love concepting so why not? We just have to be careful not to enter an endless cycle of concepting without a production commitment. Brands do love to waste your time :)
Yes they do and have no
Concept of production protocols or scheduling.
That only works going direct to client and as someone who prefers to have a agency involved since I rather just do production and not have to have account management or creative added to my plate I hope this trend dies off and just like I think it’s a conflict of interest for in-house production at agencies both think there is savings in doing this but the headaches are not with the hassle.
Yeah, being an EP client side is another trend I’ve noticed. But a lot of time that means they have their own in-house production or agency anyhow.
Feels like every production co has a growing direct to client biz. The Mill, Jam3, Unit9, etc.
And there will be more of it.
