It sucked. But with redundancy processes you have to keep it to strict metrics. There simply is no other way because one man’s ‘nuance’ is another’s ‘bias and favouritism.’ So you keep it to PA and Chargeability as these are visible metrics which we already know that we need to to maximise.
I have run these sorts of processes before and you have to stick to numbers are you simply get sued endlessly by the people that lost out.
It is by no means perfect. For me I think I was close to the line as they used 2019 H2 chargeability for half the calculation. I emailed to say this was outrageous as it is not a tracked metric: it is always YTD, never each H2 on its own so this is not something people can be expected to maximise. I was 10% above target for the whole 2019 (which is what is discussed in PA) but I was 20% above target in H1 and 10% below in H2 (party because I was on target according to YTD so I was not highlighted as needing extra chargeability.
However, it has to be about metrics because any discretion is simply a route in for corruption and special treatment. Think about it, for every one of your friends that get’s saved because an MD took pity on them, someone else gets thrown under the bus simply because an MD didn’t get along with them. It just doesn’t work.
