Somebody I know is flying across the country to ski with their family without quarantining for 10 days after one of their kids got COVID. They’ll be skiing in Taos with their family of five. They had their trip planned for half a year I think and refuse to cancel it. Call people who believe in COVID sheep. The husband and another kid already had it from another vacation. Should I try to do anything or just let it be?

Call the health department of wherever the positive test was done. If it’s New York State you can call 1-833-789-0470. Other states probably also have info on reporting people not observing quarantine. You could save a life by keeping them from traveling.

like

Statistically speaking they're going to be directly responsible for at least one death so absolutely report them. This pandemic has been a great reminder of who among us would have refused to turn their lights off in London during the blitz or who would have disobeyed food rationing rules during the war.

This pandemic is revealing who people really are.

Agree. That’s how we got to shutdowns. Ironically those complaining about that are the same people that forced us into it and also made it less effective, take longer, tanked our economy. And then complained louder.

Call the airline and local health department

likefunny

This is where calling the CDC also comes into play. Helps make sure these people are on a no-fly list for COVID

like

Report them.

likefunny

I thought you could report anonymously. What in the world is the relevant public disclosure act?

I really wish I could ties, but sadly I’m not in a position to. Not that I need anything from them, but it’s complicated. Good advice though

like

I rarely encourage snitching but 100% call the local health department and airlines.

For the sake of humanity- report them.

Figure out what airline they’re flying. That guy just died on a plane for lying about his symptoms and it sounds like your friend is about to do the same exact thing

Call the airline, call the hotel, and call the ski resort(s).

Nothing you can do

like

Yeah saw that post, they were saying call local health departments and the airlines.

likesmart

Anyone they come into contact understands the risks and choose to be out living their lives. Your friend is also a big boy/girl and can make their own decisions.

Who TF do you think you are?

like

SC1 literally no one these people would come into contact with would know that this family tested positive. So no, they don’t know the risks. You’re an absolutely idiot

like

Report to CDC. Call the airlines etc. too. Don’t give your name. Do give their details. (Don’t tell anyone, that’s the way they would find out). If they had their trip planned for half a year they planned it during Covid. Reckless endangerment.

like

Maybe I’m misreading but I thought the new CDC quarantine rules were 10 days. So if they’re flying 10 days after testing positive (and symptoms likely started before that), what is the issue? You can test positive for weeks after you are no longer contagious

like

From someone with kids, if it's a true positive 10 days isn't actually enough. If the kid is positive, parents need to quarantine for 10 days after kid is 24 hrs fever free and no longer contagious/10 days after kid tests positive, since the can catch it until he's no longer contagious. (have a pregnant friend with a 3 yr old in my daughter's class who got a positive rapid and it was hell, 21 days wfh with a kid... While they did a pcr which was negative, so positive rapid was likely false)

like

Mind your own business *said in a French accent*

like

This is bad behavior, but this is america, and it’s (IMO, unfortunately) totally within this family’s right to do so (given the lack of any real quarantine enforcement measures in this country).

like

Just a diff note, I know someone who got a false positive from rapid. They then did pcr and it was negative. So if possible to wait until after pcr results to report them to the state, may be worth doing so (if you trust they'll tell you the truth about results)

like

Doesn't hurt to disclose the information he does know though.

The sentiment in this thread feels dystopian

like

There’s nothing you can do really.

How recently did the kid have COVID?
