Keep liking and bumping this thread up so whoever originally posted it can see this and reshare! That was one of the best links I’ve seen on PE comps.

@LEK1 - I am early in my PE portco journey, so although I can't comment over the long term, but I can share a bit. My base is about 5% lower than consulting. My bonus is about 50% higher that consulting, so that makes up for the base delta. However, the equity piece is about 3-4X more than what I would get in RSUs in an F500 corporate. Reports I have seen say RSUs at my level should be 4-5X what I'm getting. I know our valuation and there is no way I would get such a big equity piece. Summary, base & bonus are in line or higher than consulting if you leave at EM/SM level. However, the equity makes it worth it. The amount of equity you get depends on your level in the portco, valuation of the portco and when you get it. Enter right at acquisition then lower valuation (more room for appreciation) and more equity. Get in closer to the flip and the option valuation is higher (less room for appreciation) and less options to be given to you. All of that risk reward stuff.

Principal - let’s connect. I recently pivoted to PE ops (working for PE firm but directly at portco). Would love to exchange notes and glean insights!

I wish there was one for PE portco execs like me. They only have a CFO report. Charles Aris has one for portco execs but the comp packages range wildly within similar fund/portco size.

Like for PE operations and value creation? That would be Associate level, so TC range of 120-200K? Depending on experience, whether you have MBA etc

Bonus is usually 50-100 percent (annual cash) at the end of the year, so you can back that out

Seconded

Does anyone have any more insight into reasonable comp for portco ops? Associate, 3-4 YOE. I looked at the comp studies for investment and portco (thanks BCG!!!). I thought the portco comp looked really high. Thank you!! I’ve had several recruiters reach out to me and they’re asking for comp expectations and I have no clue what to say

Hello! I see a ton of questions in here about interviewing and getting hired as a PM. I also know that it’s really hard as a manager to hire a great team. I’m the head of product at a growing startup, and just hired two PMs in 3 months. One a career switcher who’d never been a PM before, and one a seasoned principal PM. Whether you are someone who’s interviewing or someone who’s hiring right now, ask me anything!

Hi Folks - I wanted to understand..how is H1B 6 years duration counted? Is it strictly by the dates on the petition? In my petitions for example, first one was valid starting Oct 2017 and then I got an extension in 2020 till Feb 2023.. so that just equates to about 5 years and 4 months. So is my H1B only till Feb 2023 or it can extended to allow for the remaining period?
