They need to involve the gate agent instead of trolling. Gate agents always find a way to make it work and they also avoid swap-downs if they can't. It depends who asks and why. If I have to inconvenience myself so you can sit next to your husband or teen on a two hour flight, nope, and you shouldn't expect a yes. If a mom needs to sit next to her baby, yes. An entitled brat of a mom interrupted me on the phone and "asked" me to move in first class so she could sit right next to her grown daughter instead of speaking across the aisle. I said no and went back to my call.

This will happen more and more with the new "basic" fares, which don't allow you to choose a seat. Even if this wasn't that situation, we'll need to start to be aware of an upcoming problem; as polite as it is to switch, it encourages folks to buy the basic seats and ask people that (possibly) paid more to switch. Cheaper fares can be great as they allow folks to fly when they normally couldn't afford it, but that will leave other passengers, including us, in a dilemma.

Definitely a NO!

like

Hell no to middle. They should've planned ahead.

like

Always say yes

like

I'd say fuck no. Aisle to middle will never happen.

like

I would've asked for the window. Mother and kid can take the middle and aisle.

I had friends flying to Hawaii for their honeymoon and were upgraded to first but not in seats next to each other. Not one of the dicks sitting next to them would swap seats. Don't be that guy.

like

Traveling with kids is hard enough, always say yes. You can suck it up for a few hours and reap the good karma in return.

like

K1-I suspect they had two middle seats.

like

6 hr flight- depends on how polite they are and age of kid etc. I had a window on my last flight, with dad/kid middle and aisle, and the dad asked nicely if the kid could have the window. I had just gotten off a red eye and was planning to sleep, so I said no for the flight, but agreed to trade for descent, so the kid got a good view for landing.

With kids I would usually say yes (all other situations, no), but biggest pet peeve is when people ask to switch up to a better seat, as opposed to the reverse of offering up a better seat in exchange for them being able to sit together (i.e., people always ask the person with the seat up front to move back as opposed to someone in the back to move forward to a better seat). It's called a Pareto improvement!

Idk why people think it's okay to inconvenience strangers rather than planning ahead or paying extra. It's also really lackadaisical parenting. If I had a child, I would not take the chance of them sitting next to a stranger for six hours if don't get someone to change seats with me, I'd pay extra to ensure their well being and safety. https://www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/06/20/this-was-30-minutes-of-hell-for-this-young-lady-unaccompanied-minor-groped-on-flight/?0p19G=e

HAHA so they asked me this other man (we were both in aisle) and the man was like "HELL NO" (basically) and I hesitated 🤔 but then I said yes considering it was a mother and kid (#goodsamaritanhere 😎) but am wondering what the rest of FB would have done lol how many yes vs how many "hell no" 😂

like

I did it once, and never again.

like

You did a mitzvah! Good on you OP

like

That's a tough one. If I'm switching a FC seat sure but don't think I could handle six hours in a middle...

like

Unless you're prepared to entertain the kid, always say yes

If they both got middles, there are 3 other people they could trade with and at least one of them will be more generous, need less, or have less status than me.

I feel like my kids 1st grade teacher is being too strict, but I'm not sure if this is normal or I'm being sensitive because it's my child. E.g. she gave him 2/10 for his math homework because he doodled on the page, colored in the circle that has the page number, didn't draw the word problem neatly, wrote his last name under the name line, and says some of his numbers aren't legible. All his answers were correct, except one where he forgot to fill in the blank. Is this normal? X-posting

Hey everyone! Recent transplant (26 F) who moved here during Covid (family reasons) so still not quite familiar with the areas. I’m currently living in Brentwood but looking to move. I’m considering Marina Del Rey as I want to be a bit closer to the office (in Venice) and the airport for when things open back up/travel resumes. I tried searching here but didn’t see a lot - what is the reputation of Mar Vista (and if possible - how is that different than Brentwood?). All opinions welcome! 🙂

Has anyone been unjustly rejected by their children due to encouragement by other parent/grandparents/other? It happens usually during separation and divorce but could happen within a marriage. In many extreme cases, the child is prevented from a relationship with a parent due to a being blocked physically and emotionally. I'm currently in a toxic marriage where spouse and MIL badmouth me (among other things) to my 5 yo son to the point where he rejects, badmouths, and even bullies me.
