Someone referred me for a job at their agency and I ended up getting hired. What is an appropriate thank you?

Even if they get a referral bonus, a gift directly to the person who got you in shows class and appreciation.

well it depends - if they get a referral bonus it goes the other way. if they get $$$ for you getting hired, that’s enough for them

likefunny

Depends on the person, but I’ve done magnolia cupcakes or levain cookies, wine and cheese gift baskets, spa (massage/mani/pedi) or starbucks gift certificate. Stuff like that, and it doesn’t have to be expensive, just thoughtful. Yes they probably get a referral bonus, but gratitude is a long lost art - and becoming more nonexistent, which is embarrassingly sad.

Agreed. I feel like I should do at least something. This person took a chance on me.

A small, but thoughtful gift. And do the same for other people looking for work, it’s good karma.

Their referral bonus

To live up to their confidence in you.
A heartfelt note and small gift (flowers, wine, etc) are appropriate even if they get a referral bonus. Congratulations on the new job.

Thank you!

What others have indicated above. But at area23, it’s a family sized box of Advil, the maximum strength kind.

What do you mean?

I gave the person a $150 gift card to a nice restaurant.

We follow each other on yammer but not sure if she still recognise me.

How to initiate conversation virtually with her?

I just left a very toxic work place.
The crazy thing is they were just named the best local municipality to work for. It's upsetting. They advertise a "culture" but don'tapply it. It felt like a used car sales pitch, I was sold a dream but given junk. I am constantly replaying moments. I have read so many books and everything leads to they were the problem. How do I recover from this?

This might be controversial but I work with several older Black folks, and it's from that I've experienced the most criticism or judgment at work. I think it's probably coming from a good placed and from their lived experiences at the firm, but it's discouraging. Not the case for everyone, but it's happened more than once where I work.

What’s the consensus on tattoos in the insurance workplace? I’m in leadership and considering exploring my options due to recent personnel changes. I work remote and have arm sleeves, and any time I would be in-person I’d of course wear a long sleeve shirt to be professional, but worry about a cuff rolling up and tattoos being somewhat visible. Nothing is offensive by any means.

Had a recruiter reach out to me. We set up a time to chat. They emailed me two minutes before the call to reschedule. I proposed a new time - didn’t hear back. Followed up a day after that. Heard back, they apologized and asked for new availability. I responded and a day later, they sent another meeting invite for a call. No email, just a meeting invite. I accepted the meeting. As I waited by my phone, they never called. I know ghosting happens but this… I’ll consider it a bullet dodged.
