I am seeing that my cancer patients immune system is being wiped out faster than any type of sepsis I've ever seen
Almost all of the vets I’ve met are unhappy, exhausted, and near the breaking point. Is the profession really a one-way ticket to misery? Does anyone still love their job?
Any last minute recommendations to book a great Marriott property before the points change tomorrow? I have 376K and willing to use them all if needed. Ideally looking to book in mid-September for a celebration trip and willing to go anywhere.
Just leaving this here..

Is anyone not yet seeing any downtick in hours or inflow of work due to the Coronavirus? I’m beginning to think my situation is an anomaly, though granted we’re still in the front end of this thing.
Parents: how soon after your spouse giving birth and your baby coming home would you consider lateraling to biglaw? Consider for this that you only get a few weeks of paternity leave.
How do you handle partners who are flat out rude to you? For example, one will routinely give me assignments and either give me no information about what she wants or give me the wrong information, then berate me when it’s not the way she wants it. I’m the most senior associate at the firm and bring in a lot of money as well as my own clients and don’t feel like it’s acceptable to treat me (or anyone) this way, but particularly given my status as close to partner.
Do you have to invite people from your office to your wedding? I work at a very small office with out 12 people total, including staff. The other associate here invited everyone in the office, and their significant others to her wedding. That's a lot of extra money I wasn't intending to spend for people I'm not particularly close to. Anyone else been in a similar situation?
Can anyone speak to the growing pains in transitioning from a mid level to a senior associate? All of the sudden my partner is less willing to give me direction and support. He wants it done ASAP...
What is the likely difference in pay when going from senior associate to equity partner (ignoring buy-in)? Small but high-end commercial firm w 20-30 attorneys, secondary market in FL, not sure on model (eat what you kill or otherwise). Just want to know general expectation above current associate level pay for negotiation. I know there are a ton of unknown variables here with respect to firm formula/model that idk. Bonus points for flagging other considerations. Thanks in advance!
US Attorneys: what questions do you wish you would’ve asked before starting? Did anyone transfer from BL? How was the transition? What is the work load like? Would appreciate any insights!
Trying to lateral (third year) from general corporate boutique to mid/big law. After great interviews was turned down by two firms citing that they wanted more pointed experience. Any advice? I’m getting the interviews, the interviewers really like me, but I need to sell my general corporate experience better. Help!
How hard is it to start practicing in another jurisdiction? Big law is mostly federal anyways
I commonly work with a male partner and male associate. I just lateraled. I am more senior than the male associate, but he and the male partner have worked together for years. All instructions come to me through the male associate, and they are not always what the partner wants. I also feel like the male associate sometimes intentionally messes with me and undermines my work product. I get the feeling they talk shit about me. It is starting to feel like a boy’s club. How do I stop this behavior?
My firm has started sending our law student law clerk to me for assignments and to help me with my assignments and such. I’ve never had this before, so I never know what to give the law clerk to do. Part of this is not wanting to give up the billables; part is not knowing what to give; and part is I’m the type that hates delegating my work because if I want it done right I’ll do it myself lol. Any tips on how to know what to delegate out to law clerks?
The recent most billable hours post, inspired me. What is your longest billable day? Mine was 56 hours straight with no break—and the partner was more than a jerk when I was saying no more at the 30 hour point. That was two 24 hour billable days back to back on my time sheet and on the bill, a 360 hour month, and 650 aggregated for two months. And it is one reason (of so many reasons) why this job can suck so much! At least I got a good bonus...
I would love to quit practicing law some day and be a professor at a law school. This was sort of a long term goal, but my alma mater posted an entry-level tenure-track position that I would love. Any advice on how to switch into academia? What to include in a cover letter? I have only been practicing for 4 years, so I may be to green, regardless of it being "entry-level."
What is it like to work as a real estate lawyer? I’ve done 4 years of plaintiffs personal injury, I’d like to try something new. Don’t want billable hours. Any thoughts? (Also other types of law suggestions are welcome)
I know it’s easy to be snarky on these forums particularly hiding behind the anonymous feature but can we be better than that? People come here to anonymously ask “stupid” questions that they may not feel comfortable asking their supervisor. Personally I’ve found as a new attorney with the ever so omnipresent imposter syndrome this forum can be a great resource! The trolling or condescending comments aren’t helpful. If the contribution isn’t helpful please just scroll on.
When is it appropriate to jump ship as a 1st year? My section has been super slow across the firm and multiple associates have left bc of this problem. I’m worried about getting behind in experience.
A partner that I work through every weekend for/have calls with at 10 PM any night of the week told me that I took too long on something (that he gave me no deadline for) and I need to figure out how to do things faster. I churn things out for him SO fast regularly but this I did not prioritize because 1. I had no deadline 2. I have 10 other partners giving me urgent shit on the daily 3. I’ve billed 230+ hours for the past 7 months and I’m burned out. How do I respond? I’m about to lose my mind
Received an offer from Firm X but not in preferred location. Firm Y recently reached out to express interest in interviewing me and asked me to keep them in the loop of where I am in the process. Should I let firm Y know about the offer or would it back fire? If so, how to word it nicely? Am more interested in firm Y because of the location, but worried that with the processes being far apart in terms of timeline, I won't finish with Y's process before I'm set to respond on existing offer.
