Someone told me once that no one wished to have worked more on their death bed, so work hard but don’t let it define who you are.

This is hitting me hard right now since pretty much all I do is work. I can’t even fathom stopping at this point but I know that if I ever want a family (single F, 26) I need to get off this track. I don’t even have time to really date or have any hobbies. I’m scared I’m going to blink and five years will be gone. Going to try to re-evaluate in a year or so once I save up some money and really think about my long term goals here.

Facts. Work to live, instead of living to work.

Totally agree, but I think it’s so hard for our (millennial) generation. Growing up in an upper middle class suburb in the North East and then going to a fancy college there, I was instilled with this idea your work should be your “passion.” So if you’re really in the right career, you don’t even think of it as work. Therefore, work and living should converge.

If they don't find your flabby, pasty body flopped dead over your keyboard as a muted conference call plays in the background, you are going to have to wonder whether your life had any worth. There is little of greater significance in this world than something like a well-billed motion for clarification of law.

Apparently not without offending someone 😂 Loosen up, dude/lady! It’s the weekend!

Wise words. Gotta remember that when I start stressing (more than normal, ha) about hours and such.

Everyone’s different. I’m an attorney first and everything else comes second, and that’s me.

You can view work as the thing you need to do that allows you to do all the other things you want to do (80% of people) or as your main mission (20%). Both are fine as long as you know which side you’re on

What? Millenials don’t want to work at all

My firm has started sending our law student law clerk to me for assignments and to help me with my assignments and such. I’ve never had this before, so I never know what to give the law clerk to do. Part of this is not wanting to give up the billables; part is not knowing what to give; and part is I’m the type that hates delegating my work because if I want it done right I’ll do it myself lol. The recent most billable hours post, inspired me. What is your longest billable day? Mine was 56 hours straight with no break—and the partner was more than a jerk when I was saying no more at the 30 hour point. That was two 24 hour billable days back to back on my time sheet and on the bill, a 360 hour month, and 650 aggregated for two months. And it is one reason (of so many reasons) why this job can suck so much! At least I got a good bonus...

Received an offer from Firm X but not in preferred location. Firm Y recently reached out to express interest in interviewing me and asked me to keep them in the loop of where I am in the process. Should I let firm Y know about the offer or would it back fire? If so, how to word it nicely? Am more interested in firm Y because of the location, but worried that with the processes being far apart in terms of timeline, I won't finish with Y's process before I'm set to respond on existing offer.
