Absolutely do it. I wish I had the guts to do that.

A guy from my firm did it (right before I joined, so don’t know him too well). He moved to another city, didn’t do anything for like 8 months, and is now doing something he enjoys. Seems happy!

Approved. Capitalism is currently collapsing so perfect timing.

Pls handle, thx

You need the following things: current savings and monthly spend (include everything from loan payments, Spotify premium and Starbucks allowance). Make sure you can sustain yourself for 8 months on current savings. What’s yours plan? Do you wish to return to big law? You might want to start a job search at 4/5 month mark depending on how you plan to enter the workforce.

like

Great. Go for it. My only suggestion is to seek validation for the food truck plan. It absolutely can work and make good $$

APPROVED.

Why don’t you try to ask your firm for a leave of absence first? I know one guy who did it and sailed around the world for several months. At the least it covers a gap in your resume.

like

This. You would be surprised how flexible they might be if you just ask. And if they say no, you can always quit.

Do it

Woot

If you can afford it, do it.

At an average deloitte usi pays more than pwc ac. Better pay, hikes, bonus, allowances etc. Both are big 4 offshore centers yet such stark difference. Looking forward to switch there.

Additional Posts in Big Law

I’m a first year and things are still really slow for me. I have hardly billed in February. I am being told that things will come my way, when appropriate. Should I be concerned? My reviews have been great on assignments and our integration partner said she has no concerns/has heard great things. I’m in transactional. TIA!

First time working with a recruiter. They submitted my resume last Friday then they had a call on Monday with the firm. Recruiter called me this morning and said I got an interview, asked for my availability and said the interview will likely be with partner X on Tuesday or Wednesday. So f…ing tired of padding bills.

I’m an inhouse lawyer often working with biglaw. On a cost-sensitive project we’re working on, we agreed on a max cost limit.

Initial 30m meeting with partner and sr associate, jr associate comes in. I instruct them to limit inititial work to half-3/4 day of research and putting thoughts down to the paper.

We received a 10p legal memo without further discussions.

First bill:

Limit maxed
Junior associate billed 50h
Partner billed 1h for 30m meeting

Crazy!!

Boies Schiller bonuses: do they really get as large as $200k-450k? How many hours are those people billing to get that?

Help! (BL CAPM) I have billed close to ZERO for more than a month now. I have tried asking for work but have not been given much. Meanwhile, some other associates (including more junior ones) appear to be busy working nights and weekends. I'm feeling demoralized and unmotivated. Am I being blacklisted or slated for layoffs? No layoffs at my firm yet that I know of. Should I start applying for lateral positions?

like

Received an offer to lateral to a big firm. The benefits package includes health, dental, disability etc. but no mention of their parental leave policy. I don’t recall my current job spelling that out either in my offer. Im not planning on having kids in the immediate future but I am curious of the policy at the new firm. Fair question to ask or will it scare them if I do?

I work in commercial real estate. I have a buddy building a house who wants me to review his construction agreement with the builder and any loan docs. He has the money and wants to pay my hourly rate. This is sort of small potatoes for my firm, but he’s not trying to get a freebie and I’d like to do this by the books. Any advice?
