Something is wrong... home depot associates tell me most of new stocks for masks are exported to China right away. I can’t find any store with any mask. I don’t wanna get coronavirus

Masks don’t prevent the virus. Masks prevent you from spreading particulates

Surgical masks prevent spread of particles (wear if sick). But if you are trying to not get sick, n95 masks or any respirator rated higher would be preventative in nature.

The fear mongering here is strong. As was said, masks don’t help prevention. Also the flu has not been “cured” or else there would be no more flu, but thousands of people get the flu. Look at the link to the CDC the partner posted. Unless you are at risk due to age or other condition, you’ll likely be no worse off than flu symptoms.

Those masks were probably made in China in the first place

I don’t think the masks are getting shipped to China. Maybe they were when this started in January but not anymore. Factories in China are producing tons of face masks now to meet demand. I wasn’t able to find any masks in local stores (here in the US) but was able to order some on Amazon which were shipped from China. However as some people have stated above, masks might not be the most effective in preventing you from getting the virus. Make sure to wash your hands frequently and avoid going to crowded places.

The masks don't provide much protection anyways. Just wash your hands frequently, don't touch your face, avoid large groups, stay home if your feeling sick, and seek medical treatment if you are exhibiting Coronavirus symptoms. TBH the majority of people dying from this are 70+. If someone like us were to get it we'd likely make a full recovery. Should still be cautious but don't panic either

The masks that people typically wear doesn’t help. You need N95 which is not easy to get in the US

Medical staff will wear mask and it will protect them. A normal person will wear and it will not protect. It’s all misconception. Wearing it right is important but more important is that medical staff needs it more due to their exposure to patients. Stocking the masks by general public can result medical staff not getting it and if medical staff gets sick and less available to treat patients it will be bad for all of us. So judicial use is warranted at this time of crisis.
