Sometimes Consulting feels a lot like entrepreneurship. Running a new project is like establishing a startup - building things from scratch and setting them in motion. Thoughts?

I take it you've never been an entrepreneur....

like

That's what they tell you when you join isn't it? Gunning for partner is running your own business just within the parameters set my a larger org but also with a small safety net

like

This is exactly what my project is like

like

It's not. Running a project is like running a project. Closer to being an employee at a Fortune 500 than running your own business

like

That's like saying building a deck is worth building a product... No one is going to remember you for a PowerPoint presentation

like

Similar - yes. Many more rules and processes. But you do get a lot of autonomy as you move up. May be more like a start up with a really involved VC board.

like

No. At the end of the day, consultants are advisors to the people who actually run the business. And running a business is not the same as developing a strategy. In fact, many startups can't stand ex-consultants, since they spend a lot of time planning and not a lot of time getting results.

I’ve been negotiating a settlement on behalf of a client. OP is a major corp. we’ve gone back and forth for months, almost a year. Finally came to a final agreement and we’re reviewing for final signature. Then client is reviewing and decides they want something else modified. It’s a point of contention. OP has said no. Should I communicate this to client before pushing back against OP’s rejection of the mod?
