The answer is obviously "yes"

Big law is too obviously bad to be the bad place. But that begs the question- who is Satan in this picture in your mind?

I wish I had the privilege of sleeping in order to be able to wake up and wonder that.

Sales engineers, or any one in a Presales tech engineer role. How do you deal with a sales rep who used to be a a sales engineer? I know that is vague. I have been doing this for a while. I even dabbled in multiple sales roles at smaller companies. My issue is not agreeing with their approach at times. It could be a clash mostly in style. Might be my ego. Just wanted to a chat going. Side note. I mentor folks who are starting as SEs but sometimes the mentor needs to be the mentee.

24, a decent amount of savings in the bank. I’m sort of interested in buying a property in the next few years.
Is this a good or bad idea? I live in Ny area, so obviously the city would probably be too expensive to buy any property. Would probably have to buy further out in westchester, Long Island, maybe connecticut or NJ. If I buy, should I be living there? Or should I rent it out until I’m ready to live there (assuming it’s a bit further from the city). Very early stages of just thinking

Why is it that when we’re sick, we go to a doctor, when we are in legal trouble, we turn to a lawyer, when we need help building a house, we turn to advice from an architect, but when it comes to deen we think we are the experts and not the scholars who’ve spent their life studying theology and Islam. Such hypocrisy

Client confidentiality question:
I do UHNW luxury good transactions. About a year ago we represented buyer and seller on a deal. Deal fell apart because the buyer was shady and actively trying to engage in illegal acts. Buyer reached out asking us to represent them in a new purchase attempt, we declined.

They found new counsel and made an offer on the same asset. The owner doesn’t wish to engage with them. Can I give the owners reasons to the new counsel without violating duty to my old client

Help me understand: I applied and firm asked me for a meeting with a partner. Met with partner and it went well. At end of interview, partner told me that the firm has already brought on junior associates and cannot take on any more until around Q1 maybe (which I already knew and was fine with) but this means the firm cannot commit to continuing the interview process yet and I should keep in touch and f-u in a few months.

My Q: why start the process with first meet and then pause?

I just made a transition from ID to commercial litigation/corporate transactional practice. What kinds of CLEs would y’all recommend I take? Also — I’ve heard that boutique firms in my practice area generally have lower billable hour requirements but for more money. Is that because it’s more complex work that takes longer? Or is there something else I’m missing? Thanks y’all!

I don’t want to write a long emotional rant but I’m a year in, I make 100K, have 200K debt and with LA inflation, I feel like I can barely afford food. (Ramen is $20 now??) When I say “I feel” it’s because I’d still like to save a good amount and not live recklessly check to check. (Continued in comments)
