I’d be happy to enjoy a meal without people having their devices on the table or in their faces. (These are adults — or what passes for them.)
EY1 - I didn’t know manners had an expiration date or were associated with just older generations. There seems to be a general lapse of manners across all ages/demographics
Have you been South or Texas? They seem to do it more there. Also opening doors for women (yes I am one from up North) and that took a while to get used to.
PwC2 - exactly my point. That’s right up there with the people who are boarding and stop, stare, grunt at me sitting in the aisle seat and then point to the window seat. How about “excuse me, I have the window seat”.
I’m an aisle sitter, so I also get people who just stand up and declare “I need to get out now”. Again, what happened to “excuse me”, or, “can you please get up, I need to head to the lav”?
And you’re right, no please or thank you.

Personally, I like saying it in French to confuse the hell out of them

I say "you're welcome" to people that do and do not say thank you, like when opening a door for them.
I sat next to a woman on the plane home today. She got up at least 6 times. Not one please or thank you. She was in her 60s. I was amazed
