What K1 said: don't discuss, but begin interviewing. When/if you receive an offer, simply give notice. If they counter, don't take it. They had multiple opportunities to recognize you with promo, too late for them to do it after they realize you're heading out.

Yes walk. Do not announce or discuss. Just take action. It’s dumb how corporate America doesn’t look out for internal employees, and instead will pay a premium on untested external hires. But, that’s the reality of it. Jump every 2-3 years and up ya go!

They are BSing you saying money the issue when they magically found money for your colleague. There is an issue but they don’t have the guts to tell you. They find you useful (and likely profitable) so they’re keeping you. But they’re garbage people for not leveling with you and keeping you in the dark. Right now you can’t make a fair assessment on if what they think is the issue is legit or not. And whatever the reason is (maybe age discrimination maybe soft skills, maybe a million other things) do you want to work for garbage people?

That is total bullshit. I have seen this time and time again. Can you find a female partner that you trust to discuss the issue? Trust me, I worked at Deloitte for years and they were beyond sexist.

It sounds like you may not have the whole story here. Before deciding to leave, I would ask for an honest conversation about what you could do differently or work together on a plan for promotion. In the process you might find more information about why you haven’t been promoted, whether it be something on your end or theirs. You don’t want to leave and find yourself in the same situation at your new company. Ask for some honest transparent feedback, and if that doesn’t work, then consider s change.

Yes MD2 that is the case. I had lightly accused friend as being part of the “good ole boys club” and he said he didn’t see it, but just this past week our MD took him and a couple other (male) team members out for whiskey and cigars. So he has had, at minimum, better networking opportunities.

Know your value and advocate for yourself by bringing your portable brain and skills to a company that will recognize your value. It might be time to spread your wings and fly.

Etc. We are nearly equal in all ways. All successes we've had, we've done them together. Only exception - he's 5 yrs younger. He was promoted to SM 2 years ago. There is no way I'm 2 years "behind". Leadership says for past 2 years that they just don't have the budget to promote me. What do you think - if I get shafted again on promo, should I walk?

Agreed, there is that risk. However, I would also argue that if you do some research you could find maybe some smaller companies that might be a better fit. Also, depending on their level of risk, you could consider going independent. There are several companies bridging the client with independent consultants. More risky, but still an option. You could also consider going to a start-up aiming to get a leadership role. Lots of things to consider...

Moms, both husband and I are nearing the end of our parental leave. We live in a two bedroom in NYC. We are thinking of hiring a nanny. The plan is that I would work from one room and husband would work from another room. We can move the changing table and pack n play in the living room, and the nanny and the baby can hang in the living room. Does this sound like a good plan?

I just want to hear the explanation for why staff who started during COVID are doing so badly on average (and I have heard this from every level including staff themselves) from the pro 100 percent work from home people. If you agree it’s real, what is your solution? If it can’t be fixed, are we just accepting that the people we expect to backfill our positions aren’t going to be ready?
