Own up to it. Be humble, don’t make any excuses, explain how you’ll avoid this happening again, and try to think of a solution (can you ask any other attendees if they took notes?). If it’s a one time screw up and not a pattern, it’ll likely be fine.
She already sent an email asking for notes. I’ve to respond to it soon :(
I agree with the connectivity route from an earlier comment. Your zoom was frozen or your internet went out. And you can (hopefully) follow that up with “but I got a copy of the recording and also talked to so and so and they gave me some details”
RA – A long while ago I used to have very low self esteem. Any time I’d mess up I’d think “I’m so stupid, couldn’t get this right”. It reared it’s head whenever I’d want to do something new too, I’d think “I’m stupid anyway, probably won’t get it” and make it a self-fulfilling prophecy.
It’s perfectly ok to not get it 100% right all of the time. We all falter here and there. What’s more important is that we acknowledge it, and always strive to be better. Life’s all about growing, as I see it. But to grow, you’ve got to be your biggest advocate. Easier said than done, but it pays dividends.
What worked for me was training my thoughts to be more constructive (just beware of toxic positivity, it doesn’t address the actual challenges). A good starting point for me was adding a modifier at the end of those thoughts: whenever I’d think “Damn, I messed this up” I’d interrupt it and add “and that’s ok, because if I improve X by doing Y then I can get better.” Eventually it became easier for my mind to just not put myself down and just jump to the part of how I can do better.
Of course, I’m a long way from where I’d like to be. But at least I’m not getting in my own way as often. Hope that helps 😄
1. That makes sense
2. Let me circle back with you
3. I was on mute
4. Let’s take it offline
You are welcome
Huh?

Is there anyone at all you can discreetly ask what was discussed?
No one. It was an external client meeting 🤡
Except the VP, but he was part driving. Hence why I was asked to attend. I got so into my work and completely glossed over the meeting 🤦🏻♀️
How did you forget such an important meeting?
Nope. But the VP was there 🤡
Thanks, D1.
Hopefully the recording comes through.

You were having connectivity issues. Ask around for some notes but still own that you didn’t go in case the notes are bad
That’s the plan. Let’s see! Thank you!
Lol consultant 1. You have three choices. Admit you missed it. 2. Try to talk to someone who was there to get notes or if you missed it as a 1;1 see if you can catch them now 3. Say you had an emergency and will catch u with it later. I would go for 2 or 1 but depends on your boss
Haaa. Gna try missed it or connectivity issues. Let’s see
Thank you!
I wouldn’t lie if it’s that important manager may have been on the call and noticed that you weren’t on and that’s why they’re asking for your notes. I would own it and tell them you are going to reach out to others who are on the call to get the notes.
Very possible. The VP was on the call. 😭
The secret that most people don’t want you to know is that 99% of meetings really could have just been an email. Don’t panic. Compose yourself. Look over the meetings agenda and waffle through some “notes”. I promise you, your manager really won’t know the difference.

That is true many meetings can be handled via email. In this case the manager probably knows OP missed the meeting, otherwise wouldn’t have asked for meeting notes.
Idk y’all I think the connectivity lie is a little dumb… like if you were having issues/panicking to join an important call you would have texted someone (your manager or another team member) to jump on the call to cover. And if you wouldn’t have thought to do that idk if I’d want to admit that either. I’d try to just get the recording and scribe out notes and/or come clean
This. If it was so important and you realized you couldn’t connect you’d be texting/emailing the organizer and anyone else on your team that you were having trouble connecting. Because otherwise you look irresponsible.

“Hey, I did not attend the meeting, but I will <whatever needed to get info>, and get back to you by <realistic +20% padding for any expected stuff>. I forgot this was scheduled today, will keep an eye out for it next time.”
Nice! Thank you! I’m gonna use this template. Lol

I’m gonna guess that the VP is behind this request. It’s unusual for a manager to ask for meeting notes after any meeting.
Whenever you miss a meeting where you were expected, fess up and ask the person running the meeting if there were any actions you need to take or things you should know about.

Yep

OP how did everything go??
Idk your situation but I feel like you are giving more relevance to your manager than required. I would just say I could not attend the meeting without even bothering to give an explanation. People do have emergencies like, internet connectivity issues, apartment going on fire etc and you don’t have to attach a reason for everything in 2021, if you don’t miss meetings with a frequency
