It’s one sided for sure but there’s really only one side you should be taking when someone has been sexually harassed and nothing is being changed because the problem is systemic and perpetuated by people who think that it’s okay to cover it up and allow it to continue
I know numerous women who have been attacked and called enablers because they dare to questions their tactics via DM.
Also posts like “next up: [person]...” they are not hit men and this is not a game. Regardless of whether you agree with what they’re doing, acting like it’s a game and taking pleasure in it is bullying.
The systems that should have protected men and women from sexual harassment chronically failed. It isn’t surprising that it’s led to seeking justice through unofficial channels. It’s the only path many have to attempt to find safety. The only way to stop vigilantism is to create better options, like workplaces that prevent harassment instead of fostering it and systems that protect employees from abusers, not abusers from repercussions.
It's not the only alternative. DMA could give their evidence to journalists who could: 1.investigate things more thoroughly 2. report things credibly in an unbiased way they're willing to back up with a byline and, 3. give us a bit more context as to what these guys did.
Why don't they? Because their evidence isn't as solid, or the tips aren't as salacious as they claim? Because they know that not telling us the claims makes us assume the worst? Because DMA is addicted to the attention, and care more about gaining fame than due process? Maybe because if we found out who ran it, it'd be obvious they have a personal vendetta against these agencies or men for other reasons?
We're taking DMAs word that these guys are horrible predators, but it's just as possible that these agencies realize they can't prove or disprove any of DMAs claims and it's just easier to drop these guys because the issue is too radioactive. They may just be caving to bullying. This is getting dangerously close to McCarthyism and we're all treating DMA like CNN when they act like Breitbart.
And don't give me that "If you're against them, you don't support the cause/have something to hide" spiel. The one used by Trump supporters, Breitbart, every extremist group and actual witch hunters. I can support the cause and still question their methods. It's called critical thinking. Once we stop doing that, we're just a blind mob.
The Shitty Media Men list was also not vetted in any way whatsoever, which makes you wonder how closely they're checking the rest of their claims. Insanely reckless.
They definitely act with little tact. This comparison might not be great, but I imagine they’re angry, hurt and passionate... acting out like that father who tried to attack Larry Nassar in court.
OP they have encouraged people who disagree with them to continue having these discussions and have also encouraged others to create their own pages and do things differently than themselves at DMA, I think if you feel passionately about that you should consider doing it, seems like a lot of people on here would prefer a different approach from the way DMA is handling it and there would be an audience for your approach
Do they? Can I get an example? Not being an ass, just truly want to know.
I’d hardly call it bullying, even though I think their influence is slightly corrupting them, but that’s expected. My bigger issue is how it’s such a black or white issue in regards to their tactics - you’re either 100% behind, or 100% against and an apologist, even if you agree with what they’re doing, but not a tactic or two.
Anybody who questions, for example, the need to drag the accused’s families into it and call them complicit, is labelled as not listening to women and supporting the system that allows creeps to stay creeping.
@SRCW1 I don’t disagree that what they’re doing is valid and needs to happen. The way they are doing it - shutting down anyone who dares to have a conversation, blocking people who vote negatively on their polls to take away their voice - makes them utter assholes and no better than the douchebags they’re taking down. Pretty sure those men didn’t allow much of a conversation either. Pretty sure they also got rid of anyone who didn’t go along with their behavior. 🤔
@AD1 I agree with what you’re saying. But i consider the actions you describe in your second paragraph bullying. They’re no better than trump supporters on twitter.
I just meant that if anyone doesn’t like DMA’s methods and approach, the best way to do something about it is to work on eliminating the need for it by creating better alternatives. (I do take issue with that comparison, it’s possible to draw drastically unfavorable comparisons with anything and I don’t think it’s helpful or relevant to do so here. They are not equivalent and there isn’t value for any of us in trying to make them seem so.)
@SS1 I didn’t think that was the case. Lots of complaints about people being blocked and mocked for disagreement. Have they changed their tone?
@SS1 it’s true. And there’s zero trolling from the non-DMA person, just reasonable questions and concerns People on here have also validated that you get blocked if you vote “shut down this page” on one of their polls. I wonder why the votes for “shut it down” never grow? 🤔
@grey 1 I should have chosen my words better. “Disagree” is a stretch. These people have merely questioned some of their actions and tried to have a conversation. Their responses are those of bullies
Why is there no value in doing that? I’m not just saying things to say them. I gave reasons for my comparison and you’re telling me there is zero value in it So my original question remains: why do they get an out for being bullies? Just because the people they’re fighting are bigger bullies? It simply doesn’t have to work like that. They do not have harass people who question their methods.
Victims of sexual harassment had no alternative. Our alternative is to create better systems that eliminate the need for DMA in the first place. I have never talked about what options are available to DMA in this whole thread, so I think you misunderstood me.
I want to add that while false accusations can happen, they are incredibly rare. Sexual harassment is an epidemic and we have to fix it.
@ director it was on their stories a couple times but I didn't screenshot, I'm sure it'll be back again soon if you check it out. Haven't heard of the blocking thing but if they really were just disagreeing that sucks- wonder if they were trolling though? I understand the need to create a safe space on DMA for women to feel comfortable coming forward
@CD1 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 thank you for putting it so well.
