Depends on whether you care about upgrade chances and how you want to use your miles. If UA’s international network and Star Alliance partners are attractive then go with them. If you mostly do domestic then maybe Southwest is better. My standard advice though is to fly whomever has the highest market share at your home airport. More chances of a nonstop.

like

While SW doesn't have partners, they do go to Central America and the Caribbean. Also, the companion pass is one of the best airline perks around

like

United. If you care about racking up miles for vacation and etc. SW doesnt have any partners and doesnt fly internationally

like

Is the companion pass really worth it for consultants though? I would have to fly to my home city to pick up my wife to use it for weekend travel, right?

like

I’ve had companion pass for 3 years straight and it’s 100% worth it. Company pays for my flight home, I repack and sleep in my own bed for a night and then fly me and my BF to wherever on points so we are both basically flying for free as many times as we want each year.

Much less than 30k! Booked a trip to cuba for 19k round trip recently actually

Southwest has best points redemption for anything domestic. They charge you the points equivalent of the fare price; so you don’t have to solve for availability of award fares. And points booking are 100% refundable

like

Another Southwest perk is that if the fare goes down or they have a sale, you can change all your reservations to reflect the new price/points and have a credit for the difference

So you are arbitraging business flights into a personal credit?

Wasn't suggesting anything, just pointing out a benefit that no other airline offers. This also applies to flights booked with points

Both husband and I are consultants and our hours are so unpredictable. Nanny can come 8 hours a day. We are thinking 9-5 and then based on our day, one of us takes care of the baby for another two hours and do the bath/bed time around 7ish.
