I’m currently inhouse and noticed the job titles mean don't reflect that of an agency. I made sure in my interview to address my concerns and my CD told me that I can put whatever job title I want on my resume and she would support it, so just make sure to have the conversation! ( I also asked why our company doesn’t update our job titles to reflect the industry and long story short, every company operates the way it wants to + politics ). Even though my title isnt what I’d prefer, my salary reflects accordingly. :-)

Ask about titles once an offer is in place. Before that and you’re basically saying this isn’t the right position for you (although tbh sounds like that’s the case). Once they like you and want you to work with them you can talk titles, which is usually an easy change but maybe they already have a senior designer so the title change wouldn’t make sense. This probably isn’t the right job for you if you’re overqualified.

Agreed! I’ve successfully negotiated titles several times for various reasons and this is generally my approach.

job titles? i’m “overqualified” in the job (they wanted someone w 2-3 years experience but i’ve about 6 yrs) and bring a lot of expertise + video editing. i just worry about it affecting my resume (going from art director to senior graphic designer to ??? graphic designer???)

No but it's definitely work the ask! I would assume that they have that title for a reason, maybe leadership hierarchy etc, but it's not like you're asking for a managerial position
