Speaking to my doctor tomorrow about post partum depression/anxiety. Took me a LOT to even make the appt for it. What should I expect the discussion to be like? Will the doctor most likely prescribe a medicine or recommend any other options first? Not used to being candid/vulnerable so I’m scared (and of course...anxious!)

Probably a therapist and medication. I go to therapy and am on 10mg of celexa. It has changed my life for the best

like

Do you have to take that medication long term or just until you are feeling 100% again?

I need to do the same thing and I’m also super terrible at talking about my feelings. Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

like

Ahh good luck!! I’ve had the worst side effects in the past week (drowsiness, higher anxiety, loss of interest, diarhea) but today seems to be an okay day so far so I’ll take it! Hoping it all levels out and this feeling stays consistent

When I talked to my Dr I was sure there was a test that she could give me for a diagnosis. In reality it came down to if I felt I had post partum or not. Looking back I totally did...but I didn't want to go on meds. Just be honest with your dr and yourself. If you are at the point if making an appt you probably will need some help getting out of the funk. I wish I had done something earlier. You don't want to miss all the great things happening because you are struggling.

like

I did that recently. They definitely were open to my preference of no medication and trying just therapy first. Obviously depends on severity and personal circumstances, but they are there to help you, not to force you into things. It’s so helpful even to just talk to someone who understands and can give you tools to make daily life a little easier. I’m terrible at talking about my feelings but they were great about getting me to open up...I’m sure therapists deal with that a lot!

I’m curious to know if anyone has experience working part-time in architecture? I have been working for large international firms in NYC for the past 10 years. So I work all day every day. My evenings and often the weekends are all absorbed by work duties. Working part-time would allow me to find a better balance, and carve out space for side gigs and eventually start my own firm. Any recommendations?

Looking for support & validation.
I’m divorced & have 2 boys, 6 & 4 yo. Last week I took the 6 yo for a pedicure and he chose blue nail polish, well aware that he didn’t have to choose any at all. FFW to this week. It’s a “boys weekend” (kids w/dad). Their grandad is also in town, since Wed. Dad has called to ask to have the boys in the evenings (i have W &Th, always). I have said “ok, but only if you don’t say anything negative about the polish.” So… they haven’t seen them. This hurts.

What is a useful, comprehensive but not too long of a book for parenting toddlers?

LO is 16 months old, very sweet and social, at the park every day with other kids with either me or her nanny. Not in day care. Yesterday we had a play date and she slapped another baby on the head. Not hard and did not scare her, but the act of “aggression” took me by surprise and I felt terrible about it. I’d like to be more proactive about toddler psychology, what’s to come and how to react/ teach. TY!

Hi Moms. I’m 4.5mo postpartum with my first, and I’m having incredible feelings of resentment toward my husband, who I love dearly and with whom I’ve always had a great relationship. It feels like he’s not factoring me or the baby into his decisions (e.g. going on a 4d boys trip, attending big events), while I’m left with the consequences. My mat leave is ending, and he’s now sick with COVID. He’s quarantining at my in-laws while I return to work and take care of baby. I’m so frustrated… (cont.)

Would really love to help my lovely sister in law find a job in NYC or CT. She is a certified nutritionist, celebrity personal chef (her current job in Aspen but she is moving to Westport in January) and an all-around terrific, dedicated, hardworking person. She gets down around the holidays because she's single and doesn't have kids, but is an amazing aunt to our kids. Does anyone have any leads in the health/ wellness space? Im in biglaw and this is out of my depth a bit. TIA, Happy Holidays!

I (36F) am married to another woman (34F) and we have a baby (5moF). We split all childcare, cleaning, meal prep, errands etc fairly evenly and it works well. Maybe she cooks more than I do bc she likes it, and I clean more bc I need to have a clean house. My friend (35F) recently took a business trip and literally put a binder together with instructions for her husband re: daycare drop off and pick up, what to feed the kids, when to take out the trash and so on. I have an extremely difficult 2.5 year old boy. I know this is a difficult toddler age altogether but I think I’m experiencing way worse. There are frequent tantrums in public settings and it’s very embarrassing. We can’t do anything. He’s in daycare and apparently he thrives, so we just don’t get it. Should we wait it out or consult a behavior therapist?
