I agree. The Gen Ed teachers I send my kids to are great. They realize that most of my kids will not be able to complete assignments that look like their peers. They will do the best they can. I have it structured so that the kids are graded for going to class and attempting to complete the work. If I know what is going on in the integration classes I can find or create a similar task that they could complete and the teacher accepts it. All teachers have my number and know if there is a problem, defiance, questions or illness, I’m a phone call or text message away. I’m also available if they need something in there class. I invite other classes into my class. We complete activities together. My students are also included in rallies, dances, lunch time activities and homecoming. I love seeing my kids graduate. I know only 1 person that is possibly more excited to see my kids at graduation than me. It’s our PE teacher. Talk to the teacher. Ask if they have any questions or concerns. Find out what they need for your students or even for their class in general. As a SpEd teacher for students with mod/severe needs I have done a variety of things and own curriculum that covers almost anything they could possibly ask for. Teamwork also helps when it’s IEP time. As a SpEd teacher, some parents do not believe what I say, but hearing it from a gen Ed teacher adds different environments and another voice of support. They also give helpful observations of my kid when they are at integration.

There’s no doubt about that, that’s the beauty of Special Education. Indeed, it’s a collaborative team effort. Make sure you open up the channel of communication to the General Ed. teachers.

Hey teachers! Have any of you ever used the program Transmath? It is a math program for secondary students. I am a high school inclusion special education teacher, and this year I am teaching a math class for some of my students using this program. I would love to hear if any of you have used it before and what it looks like in your classroom! Thank you!

I took advantage of Verizon’s Black Friday deals and got myself the new iPhone yesterday. I’m AMAZED by all the neat things it can do. One of my favorites is that you can grab text from a picture and have it read aloud. This would be so helpful for my students with vision needs and those with reading disabilities. When do we think we’ll actually see this technology in the classroom? Can’t very well put “iPhone” on a students assistive tech section of their IEP 😂

Random thought. Many teachers live and die by their whiteboards, and that means dry erase markers are essential classroom supplies. Far more expensive than the chalk I started with, but I digress. I feel like the only person on the planet who prefers bullet-tip markers to the standard chisel tip. I am particularly fond of the Pilot refillables, despite their limited colors. Anyone else care to share their marker thoughts on markers and the merits of chisel tips vs bullet?

If we have good, free healthcare through spouse’s job (military), is it still worth it to pay for a high deductible plan through my job to get the benefit of an HSA? For context, we are a family of three. The cost of the health care plan just for myself would be $20/paycheck every two weeks (or about $520/year). Cost to add husband or child to the plan is over $200/paycheck (so I know that’s not an option). My thought is it’s not worth it to pay for the plan, but is there another pt of view?

In my late 20's, but I've lived in my current city (nonUS) my whole life. I was really looking forward to moving to NYC and landed a job there earlier this year although I'm still WFH and not in the US yet. A recruiter reached out to me for a new role but it would be in my old city. I'd be pretty fine with both roles themselves. But the NYC one would pay about 140$ TC (not sure about bonus yet, this is a guess), and the non-NYC one would be maybe $25-30 more. Is the $ worth the city sacrifice?
