I pay $2800 for a studio - not sure what kind of bougie apt yall have for $3k with a roommate
Too high. Check out FiDi. Most underrated neighborhood, widely subway accessible and loads of doorman buildings paying your broker fee and potentially other incentives. Been here for 10 years, moved once. Deals to be had.
Shouldn’t pay more than 4500 for a 2bed or 2500 for a single. But that’s just me. You could get a great 2 bed in Brooklyn for 2.7K-4K with a 45min-50min commute to midtown. Unless saving 20-30minutes of commute time is worth 1-2k to you, it’s too high.
Your rent vs post tax net income ratio is too high. Bring that down to 35-40%. It really doesn’t matter what you spend now. Just know if this is track you want to go, 10 years from now, you’ll probably be spending triple that amount. If you’re ok with that because you’ll be a banker forever, then don’t adjust. But I don’t know that many bankers who want to be banking forever.
You also have to make 40x the rent and an apartment for 3k a month means 120 base.
Way too high. Depends what you want . Location amenities . But honestly for 3 k you could get a place on your own.
Sounds pretty high to me. Wife and I paying $2350 for a one-bed (admittedly deliberately went tiny to save for down payment)
Seeing these prices really makes me question moving to NYC.... $1200 for a two bed here.
Where’s here?
I’m assuming most of these are Manhattan - rents go down noticeably in the other NYC boroughs.
Other thing to consider with NYC is that you earn a lot more than in cheaper areas of the country.
I make $230k and my wife makes $110k and we spend $3600 a month total. You are spending way too much. We have a doorman, balcony, gym and work is walking distance, so not like we are slumming it.
