Spent a year in external audit, switched firms and spent a year in internal audit/risk, and now I’m thinking about switching again and going to tax.... figuring out what to do shouldn’t be this hard

Question:please read, sorry if this too long. I’ve worked at this firm for 3 years as a Legal assistant, they hired another LA 10 months after me, she basically became the favorite. If there’s any new training to do, her direct boss (chairman) makes sure she’s the 1st to know about it, she’s the 1st being trained. I’ve talked to my boss (who is also a partner) about being trained. She said they’ll look into it, it’s been months. I’m not growing at this firm. What would you do?

I kind of hate posting this because I try not to be negative, but does anyone else find it irritating that attorneys in Big Law think anyone who didn’t go to a top tier law school or who is working in a small firm making less that $200,000 must be a terrible, low quality attorney? How do we bridge that distance to get to common ground? Does anyone have good experiences with techniques that helped?

Hi all!
Would love some insight on how you went from an HR assistant/coordinator to an HR Generalist. I’ve been in the HR world for 8 years, and only in the last 2-3 have I really done real HR work. The first company I was at didn’t have a solid HR team so I don’t really count that. I feel like I’m ready to take on more responsibility and learn more. And of course make more money.

I have looked into getting SHRM certification. But should I go back to school and get my masters in Hr?

I’m an academic working at a research institute. I’m pivoting into tech. Got an offer at a fantastic company, but I’d need to take a $5k pay cut. (My current gig pays pretty well.) Long term, I may make more in tech, and this is my chance to pivot, and the job is interesting work and company has great culture. But not sure if it’s dumb to take a pay cut, even if it’s small. Any advice?

I’m hiring for an entry level position. After HR performs a phone screen, I’m the first interview as the hiring manager. The second interview is the CFO. The third interview is with the chairman of the audit committee. I understand that this could potentially come off as intimidating for an entry level role. What are your thoughts? Is this too much? My thought is that even though the role is entry level, they should still feel comfortable communicating with senior management.
