Where r u looking?

I’m about 30 minutes east of San Francisco. I keep leaving but keep coming back. 30 minutes to the beach. 2.5 hours to Tahoe. 3.5 hours to the desert. 4 hours to Oregon. 4 hours to LA. It’s just so convenient AND the weather is consistently amazing. But, $$$$$$$.

100% me in DC. I feel your pain!!

Oof. I feel this in my soul. House with yard in OC = $$$$$.

Interesting article in American lawyer about returning to the office. Funny quotes…

“Another said they sensed a “shift in commitment at all levels in the firm.”

“In the past ‘life’ was organized around work with clients being the center of our focus. Now colleagues seem to think that work can be organized around life whether that is walking the dog, picking up from nursery or isolating because of upcoming holidays. The business of law and serving the clients has lost priority.”

I'm struggling to lose the ten pounds I need to fit into my clothes and feel good about my body. I'm 5'5 and 145. Ive put on around 7-8 pounds since October. I'm recovered from an eating disorder (6 years now) and have completely stopped drinking alcohol (since December) as I was definitely using that to cope, and I feel good about that. I'm proud of not drinking and not using alcohol but I struggle with chowing on chocolate/ carbs as a result. I excercise at least 4x week running (cont'd)

I am trying to pivot careers and get my foot in the door at a large firm full of opportunities. I have worked at a charity for 5 years and contributed to doubling their year-to-year total revenue. Anyone that has worked with charities may understand that is a good glimpse into my resilience and work ethic 🥴

Any advice on transitioning out of law to anything else that pays around the same (180+)? I’m 3 years out of law school. 1.5 at a small law firm and 1.5 big law. M&A practice group. Too soon to go in house? I hate billable hours and have no life working 2100 hours a year.

I am interested in moving to another state and realized that this state has one of the most restrictive reciprocity rules in the country. I've passed multiple bar exams. However, I won't get any credit for time I worked in CA because CA isn't reciprocal. I swore I'd never take another bar after taking CA - and now I have to take another exam if we move. I worked in big law in CA for two years and get no credit! Yet the exam has been waived for new grads for COVID. It sure limits our move.

M&A Hours Check. What’s your year end target looking like? Think about 80 percent of the firm’s group is not going to hit hours. Not sure how sustainable this is. Definitely have great leadership that are swallowing the brunt of it, but I’m curious if any survivors of 08 ever had a really bad hours year and still survived. Obviously M&A takes the brunt during these times, but are firms thinking that they want to be poised for when things return back to normal or are they about to let the ball go

Ugh. Today I had a tough day at the office (it’s closed but you can go if you want to, very few people are there). A partner destroyed me for being “greedy” - I asked about our practice group’s finances/case intake in the past few months). As I was leaving the office, I saw him leave the garage in a brand new Porsche 911 (I know it’s brand new because he did not have this car before).

I never knew people hate ID so much until I came on this app. Is it really that bad? Pay isn’t great but expecting a bump upon admission. Advice ?
