SPG fish... 166k points at St. Regis for deluxe room vs 75k points at Le Meridien? Going to Rome for a week and those two are my options... is St Regis worth blowing all my SPG points?

The SPGs in Rome are so far away from everything that you want to see. Save your points and stay somewhere in the thick of things. You’ll be glad you did. My wife (who lived in Rome for a year) wouldn’t let me use points to stay there because the SPGs were too far away. Having been there twice in 4 years, She was definitely right.

The St Regis in Rome was one of the worst St Regis properties I’ve stayed at. And it was going through major construction so at the very least call and check on the status of that. If you do stay there - make sure to find the hidden wooden elevator. Most memorable thing about the property.

Depends on your travel style. Personally, I don't need a St Regis in Rome - way too much to do and see. Le Meridian is fine there. I'd save the points and blow them on a beach front resort in HI or similar. But then, that's my travel style.

like

I vote Meridien. More posh and in style than a Westin and much better value than St Regis. You could almost get another trip to Europe with the points you’ll save.

like

Maybe stay at St Regis for like two nights just experience it then stay at cheapo motel rest of my stay???

like

Damn, are you really going to be spending so much time in the room that it's going to be worth it to blow that many points? My two cents is to get out and enjoy the city you're visiting - Rome is great, for what it is

like

It’s nice but why Rome? Blow it in Florence or Venice. Great Starwood’s there and the cities are so much prettier

like

@C2 with the uncultured, history-hating comment of the day. Plenty to see in Rome if you like things like history, good food, and architecture. If you’re just looking for a clean and fancy place to brag about to your friends, you can probably do better.

like

Your current team isn't spending those points tho...166k in points is a ludicrous amount of points for a week stay. Roughly equivalent to $4500

like

Do le meridian and use your suite nights with it. Youll still be in an amazing spot

like

Are you taking the trip to see Rome for yourself or are you taking it to impress other people who are hotel aficionados? I vote Le Meridien.

like

St Regis is about 8 steps above Le Meridien. In short, yes. Worth it.

like

Totally worth it!!!! I stayed at that property and was upgraded to a beautiful suite. Coincidentally Madonna was there the same time and I got to take a picture with her. Highly recommend St Regis! Book it and enjoy the butler service!!

I stayed at le meridien for my honeymoon and was underwhelmed, I’m SPG platinum and got nothing special- room was tiny. Breakfast was good though! Good value but only go there if you don’t plan to spend a lot of time at the hotel

like

We stayed at Westin Excelsior, got a nice upgrade, and enjoyed it. St Regis is ok if you’re into pillow menus and shower stalls with radiant heated walls, but that’s overkill as far as I am concerned

like

I am on the same boat , biased toward the cheaper meridian option. However, my current team consists of hotel aficionados and they are coaxing me to blow my points up to stay at the posh venue

like

I would never blow all my points on one property. Le Meridiens are quite nice. Save the fancy hotel for a lower cost destination

WM1: last time we went to Italy, we visited Florence, Venice, and Rome, and felt 3 nights in Rome were way too short. This is our second go

I like the Boscolo in Rome. Very nice

We just stayed at the Grand Flora (a Marriott property) last week and loved it!I transferred my SPG points to Marriott and it was only 40k Marriott/night.

I’m the one whose ex won’t pay for college - and I have an update. My ex texted me today that he and his wife are buying our son a car (!!) for Christmas. On the one hand, it’s one less expense for me. On the other hand, my ex won’t pay for college and he owes me at least $10K for previous medical expenses, but he can find money for a car - which is a “fun” expense that will get him brownie points with our son. Whatever - my son benefits, but talk about a “Disneyland Dad.” Ugh.

When you’re on point to lead a call, and your manager is on the call, is it normal for them to constantly “add points”/interrupt you every minute? I’ve had a couple managers and noticed that every one of them that did this, didn’t add any value beyond what I was saying most of the time. On the contrary, when I had SMs or MDs on the call, they never interrupted.

I’ve also already taken the GMAT and gotten a 740. I’m an Asian male and find the hurdles that we go through for admissions a turn off as well.

I am excited but comp is less than expected. 175K base, 20% bonus, equity options worth 60K-180K annually (60 if valuation doubles in 5 yrs, 180 if it triples, very little if does not double and 5yr vesting).
