1/3 what you say, 2/3 how you say it.
The "what you say" proves you can do the job. But, how you say it is how you convince the interviewers they want you on their team. I have often seen candidates with excellent skills and experience lose a job because they don't present well (including myself). And, I've seen people who clearly lack the job skills still land a job because of how the present themselves.
Both in my opinion. You have to understand the industries terminology, culture and have the right questions to ask. And in the right way.
I’d tend to agree it’s a balance maybe 1/3 what 2/3 how like mentioned before. If you are interviewing I probably thought from your resume there is a high likelihood you have the requisite skills or background to make you effective in the position. So now what I need to know is your proximity to those skills. Are you taking credit for things a team accomplished or were you the primary. Do you speak to your experience with confidence or do you waiver. Is it earnest confidence or cocky? How do you talk about those you worked with, what is your bent on tough situations. It’s funny how little single words or turns of phrase often betray what people say.
I truly believe it's how you say it. Even when boasting about achievements it always depends on how it is said
