Spring boot VS NodeJS - which one would you guys recommend to get a good job in a good company in the US? I know both have their pros and cons but you have to choose only one

I'm biased but node.js/deno, and expressjs. It's the future + there's literally a module for everything. Express is the best web framework I've ever used, it's easy yet extremely flexible. Although, there of course are other node options. Good luck!

Depends what kind of company you want to work for. Server-side Java is popular at "enterprise" companies but is not a popular choice among tech startups/former startups.

Java was my first programming language, and my first programming job 15 years ago was at an energy company where Java was a popular choice for non-critical systems. Moved to the SF Bay area a couple years later to work in the tech industry. Since then I've worked at half a dozen different companies and the only in-house Java I've seen has been for Android. Some of them use third-party Java software (e.g. Elasticsearch) but only after exhausting the non-Java options (due to the JVM's immense resource consumption).

like

It would, for ES, if I wasn't specifically talking about development instances, which start out holding zero bytes of application data and might grow to like a megabyte or two.

My last experience with Hadoop was a long time ago, and I only hazily remember it, but the whole point of that architecture is processing data that's way too big to fit in memory by streaming it from disk. MapReduce is not designed for interactive queries and doesn't need to cache everything like ES does. (Certainly other MapReduce implementations manage to do the same thing with a lot less memory use.)

Spring boot. Node js is saturated by bootcampers and spring boot is objectively a better tool for middleware

like

Node.js

Node.js + some ui framework like React

Spring Boot any day. Widely used in enterprise applications. More job opportunities.

People are so extreme here. How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.
