Unlimited vacation is such a bullshit policy. You have to be exceptionally stupid to fall for that crap
Side bar on unlimited PTO/vacation: Former payroll manager here. Unlimited vacation is NOT tracked. If it is tracked in any form it needs to be accrued as a liability because there is an argument that just by tracking it’s inherently not unlimited. The entire purpose of moving to unlimited vacation is to remove this liability from the books. Companies can then spin this as a BS employee centric work-life balance benefit to appeal to younger employees. Know that you won’t get a PTO payout when you leave the company even if you live in a state that mandates this. Also, your manager can still tell you no to taking a vacation with in reason/policy. In theory, as long as you’re getting your work done you can take as much PTO as you want. However, good luck with that working at a start up. In my opinion, it’s really a negative and goes on my con list. Ever since companies started doing this I’ve been waiting for the first class action lawsuit claiming discriminatory applications of these policies. It’ll happen...mark my words.
Also you really want to see their pipeline for investors and business model. You need to do a gut check whether you think it’s sustainable or not.
Lolz A1- don't go to a startup
Oh and the #1 reason for start up failures is scaling incompetency
Work life balance....
I would want ownership /equity. If I'm going to bust my ass, it needs to pay off and I need some control.
Unlimited vacation/remote days as long as you do your work!
Not really. I know I can work whenever and deliver what I promised anywhere. It’s all about self control man.
D1 they say unlimited but it's actually tracked and have heard it is used against you in perf reviews if you take too much.
Uhh...the founding team and if they have any success doing this. Your livelihood is in their hands
