Started a new job about a month ago at a REAALLY good firm. The overall job is very difficult and tough to learn. I’m somewhat understanding it but having a hard time, the support/training is there but at the end of the day having a hard time with trying to grasp it all. Would really appreciate any advice on organization/staying focused or trying to learn a new job and staying optimistic without looking weak.

Started in a new role. It's become incredibly apparent how little I learned in risk and the learning curve is insanely steep. Leave ASAP if it's not for you, because the things you learn are useless unless you want to stay in compliance forever.

Feeling so lost. One day it hit me hard that I don’t think the career path I’ve been in is right for me. It’s been gnawing at me ever since. Looking for a change, but don’t want to leave my company just for the sake of leaving, or just better pay. I want to know that my next move is a step that is going to take me places.

How does one most effectively make the transition into management from an Individual Contributor?

I've been an individual contributor for 4 years in Tech, have 8 years of experience total. I'm finding it difficult to make the management transition despite having management experience, performing beyond expectations, and having a genuine passion for enablement and development.

Did anyone transition from a Sales Ops role? Been at my company for four years and have done a little bit of cold calling, a lot of cold emailing but mainly designing and implementing systems for our company to use inside and outside of CRM. Want something more rewarding but dont know what a good transition would be.

I'm up for promotion to M1 this summer. But I honestly cant stand the thought of one more busy season, and am fairly confident I can land a job in private industry in the next month. Am I crazy to leave as a S3, 6 months short of a promotion to M1, for a job as a senior accountant in private industry? Or should I try to stick it out to M1 and then bounce for an accounting manager position?

Can anyone advise on law enforcement career tracks for very experienced CPAs interested in (but not experienced in) forensic accounting? I am 36 and going to retire at 41 - I’m done being a manager/leader in my current tax consulting profession. If I had known about law enforcement careers in college I would have gone that route but by the time I discovered it later, I wasn’t willing to start over on salary. Now I can do that. I love solving data puzzles and want to spend more time doing that.

Anyone else self-diagnose ADHD? I’m an over thinker — I analyze things way too much especially my mental health. I’ve seen firsthand the hallmarks/symptoms of ADHD through my friends and could 100% say I have the same problems too (lack of focus, hyperfocus, time management concerns, can’t quit nicotine/caffeine, forgetfulness, impulsiveness). I consider myself a high-achieving/high performer though, unlike my friends who can’t function without adderall...

Does anyone get depressed on a sort of seasonal schedule? Not like SAD, but in cycles throughout the year that seem to track to the same time period each year.

I love spring and summer, but every March, my depression gets significantly worse for a few weeks. I usually have a second dip in August/September. I’ve yet to identify a trigger, only a pattern…

Tell me it’s ok not to want another child. Tell me that having one kid is enough and he won’t regret not having a sibling. I am not mentally ready for another child. I’m 40 years old and I’m just done. I like where I’m career wise, life wise. I feel horrible about lying to my spouse. But I can give so much more to this one child than to two.

I want to know if anyone else feels like I do: I’ve been on 3 projects (1.5 years) and don’t feel “liked” or valued. I try to authentically connect with others and do my best work on every project team, but nothing seems to work. Even more frustrating are consistently subpar performance reviews, which make me doubt myself and my intelligence/worth. I feel absolutely useless here and can’t operate from a deficit.
