Started a new job and these are the investment options available on 401k. I’m 30. Suggestions on how to spread it out?

Can you see the expense ratios for all the funds? If the target dates funds have low expenses, they are a great option unless you want to allocate it yourself.

like

I’m 31 and I’d go heavy growth

like

Lowest expenses

like

Without digging into each, look for funds under .2% expense ratio and a couple funds including (from highest to lowest allocation) total US market, total international, US small cap, and id throw in short/medium term bonds

like

This, if you could find them at < 0.5 %, but that is probably what the target date fund is. I'd Google or if you can double click into see what the target date fund is and it's cost to compare

Keep it all in the retirement 2055 fund, at least for now. If you want to invest more in tech companies, put Put 75% in the 2055 retirement, and 25% in the TRP growth find, which dramatically over-indexes on FAANG and Microsoft.

like

That makes sense. I agree to stay with target funds if the expenses are low at least for the majority

I’m 32 and do 100% growth index, but I only see growth stock

like

31 and 95% of my portfolio is in high growth

While expense ratios are important you should also look at the fund’s performance (morningstar) and prospectus. It will take you a few hours, but could be worth lots of $$$ later. Also, in some 401k plans the listed funds may have lower expense ratios than publicly listed.

like

Good points. I suspect that a target fund from TRP would match benchmarks well, you should always check. Based on the options shown I doubt there will be a lot of low cost options and have a feeling the target funds will be cheaper

Just fyi growth doesn't mean what you think it means

smart

What does it mean then A2?

like

Morningstar is a great tools for 401k analysis

like

I second this 😃

ADP, is that you?

like

2055 t Rowe fund is fine.

I use VIGIX (heavy tech) and a total market fund. Total market fund has a 0.01% expense ratio and VIGIX is slightly higher.

OP - what else do you own? Brief overview is fine. If you are 30 I assume you have another 401k or investments potentially?

What kind of funds in your other 401k? Total market, emerging, growth?

In summary it feels like more work for less money, and when I asked for more - they couldn’t afford it. Do I take the risk and hope the future nets out or skip the opportunity?
