Great advice to a stagnant career trajectory

Actually sign off at 5pm/eod and don't check emails, pings etc until the next morning. If you must, Take advantage of scheduling replies to be sent the next morning

I actively follow this and get rave reviews from everyone I work with. Obviously if needed I’ll work extra hours or do weekend work but my hours are from 7 - 5 I take a lunch and if you need me after that better have it on my calendar before 430 or I ain’t showing up.

Anything you do to try to ‘set boundaries for WLB’ as a new associate will just make your team resent you and think you’re lazy. You took a job in consulting, expect to be available 8am -8pm. After or before those hours you can set boundaries by responding “I will take a look at this first thing in the morning / when I get on”.

likefunny

You/they should be focusing on what they actually deliver within those hours and not the hours themselves...

Make sure to get clear instructions and ask if you don’t understand. It’ll hurt but you’ll do less rework if you get more input.

In term so boundaries - set clear expectations and stick to them. Some people won’t respect them but most will and few are willing to write “wasn’t available at 8pm on. Friday” in a review. Also - do good work - everyone respects quality output.

Yes to getting clear instructions and asking for clarification if you don’t understand! Amazing.

You don't have any leverage to set boundaries at the analyst/associate level. 😂 You gotta work crazy hours and prove yourself at that stage of your career.

like

You don't need leverage. The only person standing between you and setting a boundary is yourself. No one can make you work, reply to an email, or pickup the phone after hours

Great points D1. But also I think you’ll have plenty of room/cushion to start our. Usually the associate level isn’t as slammed. Maybe you might have more heads down work but can be nice that you probably won’t have a ton of client conversation leading. At least as your main responsibility. Hopefully you still get some exposure to it

Came from Deloitte and had great WLB. Now PwC is hammering me with zero WLB. I’ll tell you the answer once I find out

Has anyone had experience with follicle size discrepancy? I’m trying to freeze my eggs; on day 8/9 ultrasound they counted 4 follicles larger than 11mm, two of which are already mature, 16.7mm and 18.9mm. They also said I have another 5+ in each ovary that are smaller than 11mm. The phone call with the doctor was pretty grim (he basically said we might need to cancel the cycle as 4 follicles is too few for elective freezing). Can the smaller ones maybe catch up? Anyone with a similar experience?
