Yes it’s normal. Either you accept it and it becomes part of your life or you walk away from it. Either way, it is what it is. You knew what you signed up for. Accepting it and focusing on delivering the work will make life much easier
Truth is, the less you give a fuck, the less stress and anxiety you experience. And that improves you performance, and your attitude, and your relationships. It’s counterintuitive but absolutely effective.
It really is never about the travel. The Sunday scaries are about anxiously anticipating the heavy stress of the grind. The ambiguity of what you’re doing (which should never be ambiguous), the lack of support and resources, the lack of leadership, the overpromising to the client by partners, the crazy tight deadlines. That’s what the body is resisting, not the plane ride.
Normal; and not really
Been an analyst for a year. Called Sunday scaries.
OP, you travel Sunday. That way you will stop dreading the Monday morning travel
Haha, haven’t seen a “scaries” post in a while...
That’s why people do this for 3 years and bounce
On a side note, why do people who hate traveling get into this industry? I always find it that the people in the industry who want to travel never get to and the people who want to stay local are always on the road. Guess the grass is always greener
Not worth the money for the scaries every week. Take your life back and quit this shitty track
I’ve been doing this for 10 years. You never get used to a 4:05am alarm for a 6am flight.
Agreed with EY1. Do Sunday travel especially if you’re in a cool city. Gives you a day to explore a different city and be fresh Monday morning. It’s like having a one day vacation every week rather than lazing around at home Plus the clients love it.
It really helps to build a routine for your Sundays.
Buck up, buttercup. Life is awesome and you are in the path to do amazing things. Have confidence that you do the best you can, it's better than most, and if it's not enough then both you and your company are better off parting ways. Stress isn't worth it
Get a remote project next
Well said, K1
Thanks for your advice everyone! @C2: I thought I loved traveling but guess I didn’t anticipate how much of a toll 6:00am flights would take on me. I’m definitely a night person so waking up before 7am is misery.
I stay in NYC and client is in a boring city in Illinois so Sunday travel is out of the question for me
I try to avoid Sunday flights. If I go (coast to coast) I go super early so I can do something fun in the city I’m in. You truly need to make this work for you and enjoy the travel. It is a pain to be away from friends family pets but there is no other career where this much travel happens and you get the flexibility of the living where you live. When you start to feel the pain of Travel, do alt Travel of spending the weekend at a client city is not a good option. Listen to your body and when you feel stress do something that will relieve stress for you
OP, I used to travel to Decatur, IL for a while. Know your pain
You sold your soul. Time to get after it
