Started at a B4 in July but have been really unhappy. I was reached out by a recruiter at a mid-tier firm to do audit. Is it crazy to explore the opportunity? (Cont.)

Before you switch I think you need to think about what you really like and don’t like and talk to people to see if you are jumping out of the frying pan into the fire or making an improvement. You may discover more about yourself. Maybe if you talk to one in the clique you could be more involved.

Audit is way better than tax. Make the jump as early as possible so that you minimize the effect of having to start over. More face time with clients, better understanding of financials, much less pigeon hole in general when seeking industry work.

I have found myself to not enjoy tax at all (and maybe not public accounting if I’m being honest). I thought I could stick it out a year by transferring to another tax department. As a new hire I got placed on different engagements not in my respective department. I enjoyed working with the people much more in this one department and thought I could stick it out by transferring. I don’t really like the people in my current department and feel they’re all a bit too cliquey. My transfer request got blocked by HR. I also had expressed interest in doing an audit rotation but that got shot down and I will have to go through another tax busy season (so a year after being hired). Right now I’ve been just in a bad headspace and have even considered just applying to regular staff accountant roles. I know audit probably won’t be the next best thing if I’m already feeling like this now, but at least it’ll be a step more aligned with my career goals (financial accounting/analysis). Any advice in general?

Is there such things as FP&A positions in Big 4? If so, are there better times to make the change than others (I.e. at senior vs manager)? I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad. My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.

Etc...

Any interview tips for a manager role? I'm coming from a smaller consulting firm with a lot of experience filling prominent interim executive positions at large well known health systems. The people im interviewing with have largely big 4 backgrounds but i am very comfortable with the projects and managerial roles the job description entails, but i am wondering if you big boys have any particular things you look for when youre hiring for this type of role, or any sort of preemptive judgements for those that dont come from big consulting firms. The manager role at this company is two levels below partner (with only sr. Manager in between). Thoughts?

Hello folks,
Can a tech person go ahead to become a manager and advance into leadership roles like Director etc., later in their career ?
I'm asking this about mid-size or bigger companies like the Big 4's..

Prepping for a loop for a non-tech manager role based out of Austin. Recruiter couldn’t share level, but estimated TC Y1 range of $150-$160. Does this sound right? Any thoughts on breakdown between base/bonus/RSU? Coming in from a Big 4 tax role in MCOL, so not familiar with tech comp/Austin benchmarks.

I’ve been at same company for 3 years now doing corporate accounting. It was my first job out of college but I have wanted to leave since year 1. The last year I’ve been really putting in the effort to go elsewhere (I’d like to switch to Big 4). Starting to feel really discouraged with the job search and feeling extremely burned out with my current job to the point where I want to just put in my two weeks and hope it gives me the jolt to find something else. Any advice/words of encouragement?😅

Looks like B4 partners makes the most $$ in the long run, even tech/FAANG or industry level senior roles doesn’t pay more then $600-700k, except a few roles like ceo/IB/PE/other financial roles/startup rsu (of u r lucky). Came to the conclusion after reading all the posts in this and other bowls. May be MBB, but if u add pensions, I think B4 is better. Thoughts?
