Your happiness and well-being are important. Move on and pursue what works best for you. In the end no one will really care.
Pursue other opportunities. I felt the same way and am leaving
Before you switch I think you need to think about what you really like and don’t like and talk to people to see if you are jumping out of the frying pan into the fire or making an improvement. You may discover more about yourself. Maybe if you talk to one in the clique you could be more involved.
Audit is way better than tax. Make the jump as early as possible so that you minimize the effect of having to start over. More face time with clients, better understanding of financials, much less pigeon hole in general when seeking industry work.
I have found myself to not enjoy tax at all (and maybe not public accounting if I’m being honest). I thought I could stick it out a year by transferring to another tax department. As a new hire I got placed on different engagements not in my respective department. I enjoyed working with the people much more in this one department and thought I could stick it out by transferring. I don’t really like the people in my current department and feel they’re all a bit too cliquey. My transfer request got blocked by HR. I also had expressed interest in doing an audit rotation but that got shot down and I will have to go through another tax busy season (so a year after being hired). Right now I’ve been just in a bad headspace and have even considered just applying to regular staff accountant roles. I know audit probably won’t be the next best thing if I’m already feeling like this now, but at least it’ll be a step more aligned with my career goals (financial accounting/analysis). Any advice in general?
