You can't control your hours. If you do deal work, there are ups and downs. Chill. You've made yourself available. When you get back, schedule more zoom meet n greets. Please remember that you will not be laid off for low hours in this environment if you try, and it's ok (from the firm's perspective) if you don't hit hours if you tried. Repeat: it's OK. Please calm down. Really.

If you asked, and nothing came up, then chill. Ask again on Wednesday. If even then you’re not busy, go to the gym.

Chill. You’re not going to get fired for not meeting your hours in your first year as a lateral. It sounds like your group is busy, so the hours will come, I bet you’ll make them (and your bonus) this year anyway even with a couple slow weeks. Just communicate your availability, which it sounds like you have done. Usually it’s best to be on a deal start to finish, so the partners are probably waiting for new deals to come in you can fully be on, rather than just having you do random tasks on other people’s deals, where you might need a ton of explanation and backstory to catch you up and it would be inefficient, especially if you’re junior. If you’re anxious to meet more people and get your name out there (always a good idea), this slow time is great for you to reach out to partners and seniors and say “hi, we haven’t met yet but I’m a recent junior associate lateral in x practice group, would love to schedule a quick zoom to say hello and learn more about your practice, since we’re all still remote. Would you have some time this week or next week?” Some of them will ignore you or won’t have time this week but you may get some bites, in which case actually listen to and try and learn about their practice, tell them about your work background and interests, and ask about what they’re working on right now and express how cool that sounds and mention you’d love to work on something similar in the future. (Like a pseudo interview, but low stakes because you already have the job.) They’ll have you in mind as an enthusiastic new junior and you’ll be turning down work in no time. I know it’s hard, but try and keep a long term mindset to this stuff. It’s not about making your hours this week, this month or even this year. It’s about leaving good impressions and building relationships for years to come, even if you or they do not remain at the law firm forever.

We are still very remote haven’t met everyone in the group yet. I did ask for more work to all those I know already but nothing, so yea I’m super stressed now and have a week off coming so it’s not helping my anxiety about the situation

Is everyone else busy? I’m surprised any M&A associate had the luxury of worrying about not enough hours righy now. Appreciate that that can be just as stressful. Could just be the firm’s practice and not you. Sounds like its very dependent on one client.

I’m curious so you don’t have a caseload? I work at a mid law firm and have a caseload and work for one partner.

Is Accenture a good place to start in security for a new grad? I just got an offer for security consulting/analyst in the US commercial side. I think I want to specialize in cloud technology/security or threat detection. I am concerned that I will be thrown on a random project when I start out and it will stunt my career growth. My alternatives so far are being a junior SRE for a big insurance company or system engineer at a big retail company. Then I could make a lateral move from there.
