Been there! Good luck girl, you'll be way happier and better off in the long run, despite whatever pain you feel in the short term. First and foremost, no one can prepare to break up, and no one is good at it. It's going to be terrible either way. So in this case, I would just 1) be honest and tell him that you're not happy in the relationship any more, or 2) say you don't feel like you can prioritize the relationship the way that you want, and so you need to break up to focus on your career, or 3) you want to break up because you're not getting the kind of emotional environment you need, and you don't see that happening. Construct it in a way so that he can't talk you out of it. But good luck!
That's foolish - what is he competitive over? That fact that you're in banking and he's a consultant?
@VP1 - like for taking the GRE/GMAT and business school process along with other work stuff. I actually work in PE
That sounds rough - you need a partner, not a competitor. Best of luck!!
