Started freelancing last year after being laid off and have been trying to make short term stints work until I find the right gig. However, I feel that most opportunities I can get end up being less than ideal. Dry clients (pharma), chaotic schedules and supplemental work that would never make my portfolio. Debating taking a full time job I’m not that excited about just to get out of this cycle.... Not sure if freelancing just isn’t for me or it’s the current climate. Any advice?

Exactly at the same boat as you. Haven't been lucky in getting a full-time role so I'm freelancing as well. I'm grateful for the chance to earn but the work is more production and not conceptual. I'm trying to view it as projects where I practice my tech skills (learn new shortcuts, functions etc.) As of now I'm holding out and waiting for the right fit as I see my next role as a factor in the trajectory of my career. But it doesn't help when recruiters keep offering me 35 per hour rates lol

... Or selling you in on an “exciting project!” that ends up being anything but haha. I hope you find something soon!

I went into freelance knowing I wouldn’t get anything for my book. By the nature of your position you’re taking the briefs that no one else in the agency wants. That’s why you get paid twice what they do.

I’m embracing the newfound distance between and the client and just doing a good job and clocking out. I think if you’re not ready for that, then you should try and find a FT gig to fill out your book first.

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?

Some times I feel bad when fake experience people join the company and overtake other people with genuine experience. But in today’s scenario fake is equivalent to genuine.
Being in Cognizant I know still few people who were surviving well despite layoff with fake experience and take salary in lakhs per month . Genuine people are still left paralysed with low salary !

Has anyone here successfully exited to pharma after 1-2 YOE? Currently an SA at a small NYC market access firm with a wide range of projects under my belt for big pharma clients. I'm anticipating a promotion to AC perhaps this fall or winter, but I'm at a crossroads where I'm not sure if I want to continue consulting to the actual consultant level. Currently make $100k with a 10% bonus, would I even get a higher salary in industry at this stage? Also might be worth noting I have an MPH. Thanks!

Hi fishies! Considering an internal big 4 move from Western Europe to Dubai. Not sure about WLB and whether there’ll be enough growth and learning opportunities after reading some of the threads here. Anyone up for sharing their experience? Especially concerned about sexism / racism as a WOC…and whether moving back to Europe in a few years will be difficult because the ME experience won’t be considered valuable.

Am I being dumb here - just purchased a fridge from Lowes, delivery next week. Just found out through company perks that I could get it from a different retailer for $600 less but it is back ordered meaning it could be weeks or months until I get the fridge…. I am leaning toward keeping my order with Lowes … current fridge works, it is just old and shelves / ice maker is broken.
