Same for me! So much nicer. I'm working more than 40 hours but I have a lot more time to just sit and think about things and really dig into stuff.
Same here!! I recently moved to the industry (tech company) and I work more than 40hrs during quarter ends and 30-35hrs during other weeks. Some of these hours go into learning i.e really thinking about what you are doing and coming with your own solutions that work. The hours are not as flexible as in the Big 4 but it depends on the kind of manager that you work with. And above all, you are paid more and don’t have to wprk during the weekend :)
I make substantially more in industry than I did in PA. Have more interesting work, better WLB. My husband and I have improved our relationship because we actually spend time together and I am not constantly stressed out. No timesheets. No billing. No having to go out and sell work. I dive into the work I enjoy. I use Big 4 to supplement and confirm positions. I have career growth and opportunity. I am never going back to Big4. I have been in my industry role for 4 years so this feeling lasts.
Love that for you, OP!!
On the same boat here. I feel like I also hit the jackpot. Hours are better, pay is more, work is interesting. Although I leveled down, but that doesn’t bother me. Give me the pay, and call me whatever title you desire.
Me tooooo they were trying to threaten me to stay “you’ll burn bridges, if you stay you’ll get a fat bonus in Jan” but never gave me a raise after senior promotion and no hard numbers. Now I’m in tech, got a 40% raise, wayyyyy healthier culture (everyone is also humble, hard working and fun) , I never knew I could look forward to working??
OP would you mind sharing more about your role and the company?
A year in industry and my pay is double what I left as an S1 and work like half😂 When I left they said I would be back - HARD PASS
I left for industry earlier this year and am so much happier. Rarely work more then 40 hrs, flexibility & benefits better than what I had, pay is significantly more and includes stock comp.
My company was acquired in March, and I was granted 451 shares of RSUs out of the blue. I’m eligible for additional RSU grants in the future every mid-year/annual performance cycle along with raises and bonuses. The amount of shares is discretionary depending on board approval.
Can you please your hunting strategy? I too want to move into industry but don’t find enough interest from recruiters and I know why, coz I am on a work visa and not many industry firms might want to go through this route but if you could share your approach, will be really helpful.
Lol thanks we will just be over here suffering
What level did you leave as and go in as?
Also curious, could you provide the new salary and general location?
Congrats! Did the same except left for Pharma industry. Totally different
How’s the WLB now?
How much is your total comp now if you don’t mind me asking? You may have missed some significant raises here in public based on the current market maybe? How long ago did you negotiate your newer role and when did you leave public?
Mentor
Correct - it would be more. TC is the baseline or minimum target each year.
