Started working after undergrad with salary of $60k. Raise each year about 15% for the last 7 years. Even though 15% a year seems good, I still don’t seem too satisfied. Is it just me?

Just you. 15% IS good, doesn’t just seem good, especially compared to what most people see. The bigger question you have to ask is whether the juice is worth the squeeze. You have probably worked more hours week to week than people in other industries, so the raises have diminished value relative to the level of effort you feel you have put into the climb.

I’ve literally had One 15% raise and it was associated with a promotion. Every other year (of 7 years) has been below 7% and I’m a “top performer” based on former ratings of 1/new scatter plots etc. looks like I need to jump ship STAT.

So you are close to 160K at around 29-30 yr old. The problem is you buddy.

like

Eh. This is totally dependent on where the person lives and how many hours they’re working. If they’re putting in 60 hours a week and that pay is in NYC or San Fran, I’d probably be upset too.

Just looks like 6 assumed raises vs 7. One year's /raise's difference 138 * 1.15 is around 160k

like

Uh most ppl get like 2-5%

like

Lmao Op... yes it is, if you’re staying within the same level (not including bonuses within calculation). Example, PwC MC Tier 1 SA1 = 101k, SA2 = 107k, SA3 = 112k. Granted that might increase $1k/year each. But then the jump to MA1 = $137k. The big jumps are across levels, not within. The above doesn’t include bonuses, and that’s where PwC and Deloitte stand out more for top performers vs EY/KPMG.

I'm 30. Graduated university 2011. Making 65k. Been with KPMG 5 years. No. You're fine.

You are so fortunate compared to others. Even if you feel under appreciated and you’ve earned more, find ways to be grateful for that trend and your relative position vs others and maybe you’ll find satisfaction.

That’s crazy good raises. 7 years in a row is insane at that level

New associate here - I assume 15% raise is not common from the comments?

You’d be correct.

How the hell are yiu seeing 15% raises? I don't think I've ever seen more than 6-7% in my 14 years in consulting.

like

OP, its okay and if you find a better pay go for it. Its better off sooner than later

Have you always worked for EY?

For last 5 yrs

Assess your experience and skills against the market. If you are underpaid , then fair enough to be dissatisfied. If overpaid , you probably deserve it. That’s all. Nothing to feel grateful or ungrateful here.

Idk. I guess because I get top ratings often at EY and our group is pretty profitable each year. And Ive been fortunate to have good counselors and mentors. Had an executive director as counselor when I was staff 2 cuz my counselor left EY right after I left and I worked a bit with the ED, so just asked and got approved.

Only you can decide the best path for yourself, but it sounds to me like you’re in a good place. You might also be the type of person who is driven by your lack of satisfaction, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I know a Principal at Deloitte who is paranoid about his job and future with no rational reasoning behind it, and when we’ve discussed it, he has admitted that it is part of what drives him to succeed.
