Starting a new job and get to choose my own laptop within ~$1.5K. I’ve always been a Mac for personal and PC for work person, and debating going to Mac for work. Team Mac: thoughts on excel and ppt on Mac? How are the shortcuts? (I am a power user of alt-h-g-a in ppt but can’t seem to find a Mac equivalent) Team PC: thoughts on utility of a 2-in-1? Any votes between HP Spectre 360x, X1 Yoga, or XPS 13?

If you do work in Excel and PPT, Windows is the best option.

I exited to tech and we don’t use Excel or PPT at all, so Mac works better for us.

I’ve done both Mac and PC for work at various times and don’t feel there is a clear answer independent of your existing habits.

PC works better with the Microsoft suite; specifically, it has the hotkeys people are used to. I have always hated on a moral level that this gives Microsoft a market advantage, but nobody asked me. And I never got to no-mouse level with excel so I’m honestly no slower on Mac.

Mac is worse with the MSFT suite but I like the feel of the UI better and I feel like my Mac crashes less often (admittedly I don’t have data for that!).

FWIW, overall I strongly prefer Mac and feel that enforced PC usage is a subtly demeaning management technique. “Even your computer is not your friend.”

Go for HP pro book or elite book. Mac is no bueno for Office.

No Visio on Mac means it's a nonstarter for me. Have a locked down work laptop and after significant research bought xps personal laptop a couple years ago. Aside from awkward power button, which may be improved on newer models, I've been very happy with it.

I find that two things are more important than everything else and often at odds: weight and if you want more horsepower. Battery life is a close third, but too unreliable to make a purchasing decision on, as are laptop touchscreens.

If weight is a priority, get a Mac. If horsepower, then you want a gaming laptop like MSI or Alienware. If you don't care about either, see if you can repurpose budget to peripherals like killer headphones.

Do NOT get a yoga. Everyone I know who's had one hates it.

You don't need any fancy hardware, learn to use a cloud platform instead. Or if you just want notebooks with a GPU, the easiest environment for up and go is Google's free Colab

Does anyone take full advantage of a 2-in-1 for consulting type work? I currently have one but don’t use the tablet because I have no stylus and the windows buttons are too small for my fingers.

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

What are the perks and benefits offered at Autodesk India, Bangalore office. Do we get free food, outings, hotel stays, coupons, etc.😃

Hi everyone! Can anyone tell me what you make as a typical banquet/events manager for salary or per hour? I’ve worked for Marriott/Bonvoy at the Ritz and for the Curio Collection with Hilton as a bartender/server/banquets captain. Now I’m working for a privately owned hotel and as a manager role in Banquets/Events. Because of pandemic times, what is everyone else making?

Time to board the flight. Bulldog? Check. iMac? Check. Seems like a better option than mine.

I was offered $42k plus bonuses at the interview, but when called back I was offered $44.5k plus bonuses. I already accepted. Did I leave money on the table here?

I am now back in the pre-diabetic range, and I got off my diabetes meds. I lost 40 lbs. and feel great! Take care of yourselves! It’s important

Hello all
I am a biology graduate. I worked in cancer research and development for more than two years. Recently moved to Canada, and now I'm wanting to transition into clinical research.
Most jobs I find online ask for atleast 2 years clinical experience.
Does anyone have any tips on how to procure this experience? Should I invest in a course? Or should I volunteer at a CRO?
I recently got offered a clinical admin position, would this count as clinical exp?
