Starting a role in software as a Product Owner. Should I have a Mac or a PC?

It probably doesn’t matter unless your product is platform specific 🤔

likehelpful

Second this.

If your product is software that you want to see how a customer uses, then probably stick with a Windows computer since the majority of people use Windows. If that doesn't matter at all and you want to try out a Mac, then you could get a MacBook. Just make sure you won't encounter issues with different applications if you do decide to get a Mac.

Should ask your manager or future teammates... Instead of strangers who have zero context

like

My manager gave insight, but I don’t see anything wrong in asking strangers who don’t have context but do have experience. Next time just keep scrolling asshole.

Does you company use word or google docs?

Get a windows laptop.

Also depends on what your most comfortable with and what your coworkers like to use. Also depends on what your responsibilities within company are.

In my last job as a sales/support engineer, I chose Mac because everyone else in a technical role has a pc. But most of are sales team were using Mac-Book Airs. I was the only one that knew how to resolve issues on the Mac platform with our internal and external users for a enterprise SaaS product that integrated with other platforms and home grown apps. Our product included browser extensions, an electron application and server side injectable code.

Thank you! I asked because I’m new to the software scene and it is my understanding that Macs are easier to navigate. I wanted the opportunity to understand or see what developers and designers do. However being a lead I will be less on the technical side and need a PC for easier compatibility with Microsoft.

Hello, fellow newbie here 😀
Was wondering if yall know of any remote sales jobs with a good starting base salary? I'm doing great at my current role selling senior health insurance (76k give or take a year) but I know I'm capable of selling at a higher commission range. My calls at my last company were all cold (around 100 a day). I got job offers as a recruiter and also a few SDR offers but both fields the base is under 45k. I have a four year degree and one year of sales experience. Thank you

Hey Fishes, So i have got an offer from 'Capgemini engineering', it has 15% variable pay tagged for the role of Senior manager. Can somone confirm - wht is the average % age of this variable amount we get? Capgemini

need advice.

I have been working in an interim role as a portfolio manager. I was promised that the role would be mine. However, after doing the job for 2 months, I have been advised that we might not get the funding for the role and I might not get the raise and the title but my responsibilities will be the same.

Its a political minefield.

How should I back out elegantly that I need to be compensated fairly and competitively from this mess without burning any bridges

I received an offer from IBM Bangalore. However I saw openings at my preferred location Kochi only after the interviews. I called the HR after getting their point of contact mail and I asked if it's possible to switch. They said I'm already tagged to a project and that they'll check from their end if it can be done.

Anyone knows the chances of location being changed after receiving the offer and getting tagged to a project?

I have not yet accepted the offer.

What is the minimal offer I should take percentage-wise? I am a Sr. Designers got a Sr Designer offer for 30% more with about a total of 10% extra in perks and bonus. Before the spike in tech from the great resignation, I was making in the top 10% of my role.
I was approached as a passive candidate if that helps.

I'm hiring and I've just learned that my HR department is screening candidates by asking them about very specific functions and frameworks.

"Can you describe your experience using Element#remove()?"

"Can you describe your experience migrating from X framework to Y framework?"

We don't use Y framework and have no plans to use Y framework in the foreseeable future. I also don't expect candidates to have all functions memorized. How on Earth did they find out about Y framework!? 🙄🫣

CS and SWE is great in that it can be applicable to a great range of fields, to create immensely helpful tools for other things.

What are some areas where SWE intersects with things that help people, country, and the world? Now also add in making a decent living and generally competitive with other SWE “industry”.

Things that come to my mind are government-related, military, some fintech. Sciences have great need of computing, and can have big impact, but income is less clear.
