Starting as a senior at the end of Feb at the Big4. How can I make sure I catch up as soon as possible considering I’m starting in the mist of busy season? Appreciate the help!

Sit back relax and know that you probably won’t be utilized immediately. It will be frustrating. Wait your time. It will come.

I switched at end of Jan. The next year saw several more people start in Jan and feb. Busy season is (mostly) staffed. And you’ll probably sit for a while. you are needed, just not right this moment. It was frustrating for me to come in as an experienced senior and watch people work (even as all the managers and SMs were saying “we’re so glad you’re here we need people so bad”) while I had nothing and was peacing out at 5.

Come in to the office. Have a good attitude. Meet people. Talk to people. That’ll get you started.

You won’t get things that are hard or important at first, but what you are given take a measured approach and learn as much as you can. Get your hands on as many varied and different things you can and do them well. Get to know your managers and partners and your associates as well as you can with the time you have while the complexity of your projects is low. Prove your brilliance now and after season adjustments will be made. They always are.

There will be a lot of onboarding stuff to do. Work on that. Also, if you're PwC, need to get digitally upskilled, this will be perfect opportunity for that as well.

Don't sweat not doing much right now. Trust me that won't last long.

Congrats and welcome!

I just found out that my CPA failed to file my returns and submit payment on time even though they confirmed on the 18th that it was going to be filed that day. I do corporate taxes and have extremely limited experience in personal taxes. What should I be concerned about here other than the penalty and late fees for their negligence?

It seems like everyone is in agreement that switching firms gives you a salary boost, but that you could be viewed as someone that doesn’t stick around. Has anyone felt like they got held back from jumping firms every 2-3 years for the salary bump? I know peers that bounced around 2-4 times in a 7 year span and they are making significantly more money than if they stayed at their first job, however it didn’t seem like any of the new companies cared that they bounced around. Other experiences?

Is it me or does the newer generation value more intangible things that aren’t easily measured like work-life balance, fulfillment and purpose in work. Which makes it difficult for firms because that’s not something that is easily measured. Also, this is why there is “value” in crypto, NFTs and the metaverse. It’s a clash of the generations that value tangible things like money, houses, cars and one that values time, experiences, personal online image. Thoughts?
