Agreed to serve as local counsel for another attorney in my firm (different office). Answered complaint and then the case fell off the rails. Turns out firm has a conflict of interest that was missed in initial check, client has been instructed to retain a new attorney, court has ordered us to withdraw and client to produce documents by Wednesday. Did you ever had this feeling of not fitting in? People (including non-legal staff) in my team just ignore me. I know I made some mistakes, but resenting a trainee for that reason seems unfair. Just went to farewell drinks of an associate and only two persons out of 14 actively engaged conversation with me. With the rest I had this feeling of forcing everything and of being the awkward one. There is one think I was always wondering. While someone is leaving a company to other, why is it that it should be in such a secretive way. Why should we inform our colleagues officially on the last day of working? Won't it be good to inform in a week advance and leave with a proper goodbye from everyone? Or why shouldn't we inform on the day our resignation is accepted?

Trying to decide who to invite from work. My office is about 45 people total—50-50 attorneys and support staff. I know which associates I’m inviting and know that the others won’t care. The owner states that the values are important to her etc yet my manager violates these values and is involved in unethical behavior frequently.
