Starting at EY tomorrow. I know it shouldn’t bug me, but not a single member of my team has reached out. In fact... I don’t even know who is on my team or who I’m reporting to- that info was left blank in my pre-hire onboarding. Wildly different than when I joined KPMG. Not feeling very welcomed at all and worried I made a mistake with the switch. Just wanted to vent my anxiety, ty.

To be clear, you are starting tomorrow? Like starting work? As in, they are not yet paying you. Sounds like a good switch if they are not contacting someone who isn’t employed. Anyways, I get your point that you may not be going to a team with a lot of camaraderie. However, you may also be going to a team that respects work life boundaries. Just enjoy your last night of being work free!

I didn’t think about it this way- thanks!

You just need to chill. EY is a great place to work. No one reached out to me before I started and that wasn't a big deal; why should they have?!? Just get onboarded, connect with folks and learn and grow. Experiences differ, but mine has been great. DM if you'd like. I enjoy working here, and this is me coming from working at two other B4.

Just take PTO tomorrow.

Maybe they don’t have your non-EY contact information? Surely you’ll hear from them in the coming days. If not then I’d recommend pinging your counselor after whatever orientation activities are done (LOO, WTEY, whatever they’re doing these days)

Maybe you slipped through the cracks and will get paid and never have to work

Hopefully

Did you not interview with your team...?

I thought it was weird too!!

First few days are onboarding. It is during this period when your counselor and your onboarding PoC from the group will reach out. For most groups, a new hire announcement email is sent out as well. Sit tight! They are aware you are joining and things are in motion. Wishing you luck for the first day!

Of the dozens of people I’ve hired over the years, or that I know are joining my teams, I’ve never once even considered reaching out to their personal emails or calling them.

Curious - did you join KPMG as a new hire? If so I wouldn’t compare your experience from new hire on boarding which experienced hire. The engine around campus recruiting is pretty well oiled with a schedule etc... experienced hire not so much.

like

No, I went to KPMG as experienced hire

I start at EY tomorrow too!

You probably did make a mistake. You went to another consulting gig lol

Sorry you didn’t have the best onboarding experience, OP! I do hope it will be very different once you have actually joined :)

And good luck for Day 1!

Thanks all for helping me get my head on straight- I needed it

The same happened to me. Turns out once I got my corporate laptop I had a bunch of emails from my team members welcoming me and telling about my first project.

Remember there is ramp up time. A day up to four weeks. Don’t feel stressed if you aren’t put on a project day 2. That’s totally normal and fine. Do internal trainings, virtually network with peers at your level, learn the internal systems. But don’t stress, or feel behind, because you aren’t.

I felt the same joining KPMG as an experienced hire, but everyone is just really busy. Looking back I kind of took it personally, but 2 years in, I’m not surprised that was my experience. Good group, just really busy. People should make it a point to reach out though.

Also start tomorrow, and nobody reached out to me as well but I don’t mind 😂

Maybe you smell? j/k all will be fine - pretty much the same for all new experienced hires. Good luck on your first day!

I’ve only occasionally been given new joiners personal email to say hi before they started. Like others have said, wait until you get your EY laptop and, if still nothing, ping your hiring manager/ counseling family leader. Good luck on your first day!

I joined 2 weeks ago and no one reached out to me until my very first day
