Hi Everyone,
Was hoping to get a hand or advice. I had submitted an application the Travelers for a marketing position in early November, resume shows received but nothing else. Is there someone that works there that could direct me to a HR email or contact person? Have had nothing but a positive experience working with Travelers in my last two roles as an agent and then an underwriter would love to have to the opportunity to work directly with Travelers. Any help would be greatly appreciate is!Travelers
Do your workout first thing in the morning. It is the easiest time to control and protect.

Talk to your PDM about your doctor's concerns so it is officially discussed. Then, set expectations with your ED/EM early on to carve out specific times during the week when you need to exercise as non-negotiable. People are understanding, it is up to you to communicate though.
Welcome to the firm!
Thanks!
Congrats and welcome, OP! You are going to be doing great :D
Honestly I’d say nobody cares as long as you deliver, and unfortunately it’s always on you to stick to the boundary and push back… some very random tricks
+ Personally I’m a fan of Slack status, and I put the emoji for 30min lunch or 1 hr “walk outside break” or whatever during the day. It helped me to “feel” my boundary and not too scared of being away from the laptop. You may still get pinged but hey you’ve also been responsible and informed your team
+ Also have open conversations with leadership on WLB topic helped me in a surprising way. Think of the basic question of “how you deal with stressful situations”, but you may find out the serious, hard-working partner plays video games one hour for a day to distress. Able to see others especially senior folk’s vulnerability or personality is hard in remote settings, but really helped.
Helpful, ty!
Welcome! :D
1. Pre-Engagement have a chat with PDM and let them know so they can solve for the right kind of project for you. Usually new hires, as much as possible, are put on projects where the EM will have time to coach. While not always the case, letting you PD know should help them to solve for that
2. When starting the engagement there will be a kick off to discuss team norms and what you need to be at your best. Would suggest you mention it and agree with your EM what could be a good way to block out time in your calendar.
3. During the engagement, hold your boundaries but be flexible too. Contradictory I know, basically make sure you have the breaks you need but if it's not a rigid time and theres a need could you push it one hour forward or later etc.
4. Boundaries and attitude are not the same thing, though it can seem that way. If you do your best in your workstream, deliver a nice output and are a good team player, I don't think people will have issues about attitude - at least I've never been in teams that judge a team player person with boundaries as having a bad attitude.
Hope this helps :)
It does help, thanks!
Do it in the morning.
Can be really hard to protect any time after that but there are a few managers here who will let you consistently do that. Also get into the habit of accepting that you won’t get everything done - you have to triage. Depending on the study, you may have 70-100+ hours of work to do every week but only 60-70 actually matters. Be open with your EM on what that stuff is and that will help you set boundaries.
You may be on the beach for 5 weeks like me
Do you mean before getting staffed on your first project?
I block out an hour in the morning as unavailable (8-9am) and then make it super clear in any kickoff that we don't do pre 9am meetings. Feels weird in your first kickoff, but after a while you realise setting boundaries is ok :)
Also, welcome to McKinsey!
Yeah for sure. Everybody has their norms (including analysts and associates). 9a may be a little late in the morning to start (some teams check in at 8a, or even earlier for factory stuff) but very normal to set boundaries in the team kick off like that.
I try to go in the morning because it ensures you do it. But with this wfh model you can really go anytime you don’t have meetings so long as your getting everything done. I was running in the morning and going to the gym to lift at ~3pm and nobody cares. If you need to be available for calls in the evening there’s no point until waiting until 5/6 if you’re not in an office.

Congratulations!!!
Were you in ACN Strategy? How many YOE? Congrats!!
Feel free
Every team has at least one person who brings this up when setting norms. You are not alone, ask and you shall (probably) receive :) welcome to the Firm
Frame your goals, planned approach, and ask your team help to support it. If the Firm still has good people left, you should get it.
Unfortunately we’ve lost a ton of talent this year. We will always have lots of very competent people but we’ve lost an incredible amount of great caring people leaders during Covid and that has snowballed to make the lifestyle atrocious.
