- No black suits - navy (not blue) and charcoal grey suits only - Don’t be a weirdo and mix match your blazer and trousers - quarter zips - get beige, navy, grey and maroon - no brown shoes pls
If you’re not opposed to spending a little cash, head to Alton Lane. Much better quality than suit supply and the other mass market purveyors of “custom”
+1 they make some of the best made-to-measure suits and blazers for the price you’re paying.
Suit Supply is more off-the-rack tailoring so quality and fit is limited. You wont’t regret paying a slight premium for Alton Lane.
Also, never go to Knot Standard (if they’re still around), hands down the worst experience I’ve ever had - lot of bottle service girls working a second job who struggle taking down the right measurements.
This REALLY depends on the firm. I was at a growth equity shop for a while and a lot of folks wore jeans and polos. Buy side is also a tiny bit less formal than ibanking. On calls with PE clients I often see the guys in a button up and slacks or dress pants with a sweater or vest. Get a suit or two, but the days of needing to wear one into the office everyday are largely behind us. I’d ping one of your new colleagues or bosses to get a sense of how most people dress when they come in before you drop your signing bonus on a new wardrobe. Congrats on the new gig, best of luck!
What’s everyone’s thoughts on shoes? (Everyone except the weird London guy)
Seems that expensive dress shoes are not as common as drivers and high-end sneakers nowadays. (Thinking slacks/jeans and button down/polo - not a suit or jacket )
Accenture fish, I have a Teams first interview call (video on) for a strategy role Monday. Suggestions on attire? Thinking open collar dress shirt + jacket. Too much or on point?
Bonobos and Charles tyrwhitt prob
CT shirts are by far best value
Lululemon slacks and Rothy’s drivers for a true Associate look.

In England/Europe brown shoes are seen as very casual/inappropriate in some work settings.

What kind of PE firm? I honestly wore golf pants and a polo with a quarter zip every day to work with brown loafers
Agree on above. Add SuitSupply to your list.
