Starting in September, when is the earliest I could feasibly take time off? Would taking a week in December for a family thing be bad?

December is totally ok. Nobody monitors your start date + when you take off for staff. They're kinda all lumped together

like

No just communicate it to your team well in advance

like

Completely fine. These A.T. Kearney guys are full of shit or don't have a life outside work.

like

I think it's fine to take time off but I do think you should wait until you're staffed to book plane tickets. I had two new hire analysts inform me that they were taking two weeks off around xmas and New Years a few years ago...when I asked who would be able to cover they told me "well...you I guess." As the manager and the only person who had PTO I was going to lose, I was pretty pissed off. Moral of the story: clear with your project team before booking travel bc it could create coverage issues.

It's the holidays, everyone is off

Nope

like

Totally fine and normal. Just let staffing know

like

You won't make it far in this profession if you are already thinking about taking off before starting. Put on your big girl panties and suck it up.

You haven't started yet!!!! Honestly

Thanks @EY folks. What is the December holiday schedule like firmwide?

EY SM here: Just brought on a Senior and she had two week long trips already planned, so guess what we worked around it. Additionally, like people have said, it's expected that people take time in December. Just communicate open and honestly.

Move voting day to the first Monday of November and make it a Federal Holiday.

Make early voting mandatory in each state that starts no later than Oct. 1.

Mandatory same day registration.

Mandatory mail in ballot option where ballots are placed in mailbox by Oct. 1.

Must have a minimum of 1 polling station and 1 ballot drop box per 10000 residents and must be conveniently placed and easily accessible.

I have been at my company for a little less than 4 years now. I’ve had the third highest sales last year out of a team of 50 and consistently the highest outbound calls per week. They told me I can start WFH once I hit $1mil in profit, but then rescinded right before I hit the goal. They have also denied simpler request like time off, when I know they have approved this before for others. I feel super unappreciated, but the money is great. I’m not sure if I should look elsewhere and start over?

I am currently at a firm and received an in-house offer. Aside from main items like comp and big ticket benefits like PTO/health insurance/401k, what other items do I need to think about discussing/negotiating? For example, fees to keep bar licensure, professional association fees, CLEs, etc. I feel like there is so much on that end I currently take for granted being covered at my firm. Anything else I should consider?

First - thank you so much to this amazing group for all the encouragement and advice! I now potentially have 2 offers (both verbal) at this time. Both amazing companies. I have 2 questions:
1. I have a month's vacation planned for end of this year. I didn't mention it during the interview process (it was not intentional). Should I mention this to the recruiter when they come to me with the initial offer?
2. Some tips for salary negotiations please?

Not gonna lie, I legit thought about taking PTO next week so work doesn't get in the way of me watching prelims.

Aside from all the usual benefits like paid vacation time, health insurance, 401k matching program, have you ever seen a truly unique business perk?
