Starting my role in FDD soon any tips? Specifically asking because im a top performer in audit, early promoted to manager this year and was fortunate to keep my promotion and transfer to FDD as a manager. top notch excel/vba/macro and data skills with alteryx,BI and tableau. I know its going to be a big learning curve so want to make sure i don’t drown especially as a manager.

Good luck, hopefully they staff you as a senior for awhile.

That’s the key. Unfortunately most new hires from audit just aren’t that helpful, regardless of what level you come in at or how you performed in audit. Takes about a year to ramp up and having someone good hold you hand during that time is the most important way to set you up for success.

Biggest thing is to not let your ego get the best of you. You’re going to be acting as a senior and in a lot of cases you’ll feel like a staff - but that’s just the way the model is built. Be enthusiastic about learning and taking on any task - regardless of whether you think it’s below you. If you don’t know how to do something, absolutely ask because the timelines don’t allow for spinning your wheels or trying to figure it out for yourself - and definitely not for spending a ton of time doing it wrong. At the end of the day - attitude and attention to detail are the keys to success.

INSEAD vs LBS: Targeting MBBs post MBA. Profile: Nationality - Indian, Current Location - London, Experience: ~6.5 years across Deloitte and EY. Currently on track for Manager promotion at Deloitte next year. My main concern is around sponsorship, are MBBs looking to hire non-Europeans esp. @INSEAD? People say it is a consulting school but majority of campus hires are EU / British citizens. Not sure if Brexit has changed something recently.

My firm recently removed the CPA requirement to make manager in FDD stating that it is following the market. Being a CPA is definitely better than not being one but will it hurt my exit opportunities if I decide to not pursue my license? Do companies outside of public accounting even care that much about having your license / are others seeing this same trend?

Trying to exit into FAANG but know it may be a long shot involving a handful of rejections. Meanwhile got approached by a number of recruiters for a) smaller emerging startup <but need to shift geo>, and b) major banks for in-house strategy. I’ll proceed with interviews with a) since it will give me a flavour of tech recruiting, but should I even go through with interview process for b)? Thoughts? Fyi, have not interviewed in 4+ years!

Interested to hear how people learn project management. I have done PRINCE2 exam and read PMP materials, but I find these are too textbook theory based. Real life projects seem to be very different and a lot more complicated. I often do not know what needs to be done unless someone tells me. I believe you can learn these things on the job, but I am keen to expedite this with some books or courses. Are there any resources that are particularly helpful?
